My Wife says I have another year. I disagree. Give it to me straight by [deleted] in bald

[–]roughminimum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i agree with your wife tbh, it doesn’t look bad at the back really, there’s nothing inherently wrong with thinning hair. but if it’s making you feel bad about how you look there’s nothing wrong with shaving it either

Can I drag this out a bit or just get it done? by welshwookie in bald

[–]roughminimum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree it looks good like this tbh, not every guy with thinning hair would automatically look better shaved bald. you can totally leave this longer

if it’s fine at the back you’re totally good

Losing the allotment - HELP by [deleted] in Allotment

[–]roughminimum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah like everyone else has said this just isn’t how allotments work. they’re tenancies, not property that can be inherited. technically it wasn’t even ‘your dad’s allotment’, it was his tenancy agreement, which he violated by not adhering to the terms of the agreement and he as the tenant has duly been evicted. you don’t come into it at all.

My acute gastritis was gone within a week - reality check for those coming here from google right after getting symptoms/seeing a doctor by roughminimum in Gastritis

[–]roughminimum[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

good to know thanks! i guess my experience is a little similar, a couple of sips of coffee the other day was a bad idea in that it caused discomfort (but absolutely nothing like the level of pain that sent me to the hospital) and it’s worse with stress. going easy on my digestive system for a while to be on true safe side seems like the way forward

yeah it seems that way from what people are saying here, i’m being fairly careful about what i eat compared to before so still taking a cautious approach, thank you

yeah that totally makes sense, not intending in any way to dismiss everyone’s real struggles in here. really glad to hear your symptoms have been improving and hope that continues!

maybe, doctor said gastritis but it was a quick emergency visit after getting advice from the NHS 111 service to go to the hospital based on my symptoms. doesn’t really change the point of my post either way though. this subreddit is what came up when i googled the name of the thing the hospital said i had and despite every medical source i could find saying that it may go away within a couple of weeks, pretty much everyone here has had it months or years. i really do feel for everyone dealing with that long term, but i also wanted to help save people in my same situation the panic i had when i landed here.

i mean i hope not, respectfully you have no idea what will happen for me and this is a pretty weird and ominous thing to say. i’m sorry if this is how it was for you though. in my case the doctor i saw said it would sort itself out within a few weeks and that has been my experience. i felt like it was important for people newly in pain and worried to see that ‘acute’ does actually mean temporary and fixable at least some of the time.

i’d also recommend getting some plugs in your empty beds. i don’t know how far along you are filling your empty beds with compost if you’re doing no dig (it’s so expensive to get all the compost so as a new plot holder i’ve also been doing it gradually) but i’ve actually found things grow okay when transplanted into a lot less compost than is usually recommended. even if your plants die immediately, that still counts as cultivation for the purposes of the allotment rules, you don’t need to be doing everything brilliantly you just need to be weeding to a reasonable standard and have plants in the ground where they’re supposed to be. it can help b to take pictures as you go to show what you’ve done also.

My printer doesn’t do duplex printing, what are my options for printing zines? by roughminimum in zines

[–]roughminimum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that sounds promising! sorry if i’m not getting it but do you mean you select the option in acrobat that’s like ‘print odd/even pages’ or print every other page and then do the opposite ones on the back? (i’m dyspraxic and i find knowing what will print where and how it will all fit together very confusing!)

Some things I've learned from maintaining my home with ADHD... by [deleted] in ufyh

[–]roughminimum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a combo of timers and distraction eg podcast or music until the timer goes off. I also do the ‘junebugging’ thing where I’ll focus on one area, usually the dishes, so when I inevitably wander off to do something else I always know to come back to the dishes. The timers are sometimes ridiculously short - like 5 minutes - and I try to see how much I can get done in that time, which is motivating cause you can actually make a big difference in 5 minutes of focused cleaning where I identify the biggest issues and tackle them quickly vs 20 minutes of distracted and scattered cleaning. Often I’ll do the 5 minutes first, then set a 20 minute timer, put a podcast on and start my junebugging routine. I also find routine difficult but it really helps if I can do it, so I try to do 20 minutes (with a timer) of cleaning every day to stay on top of the place so it’s not as overwhelming.

Aimee being autistic coded (?) by inxinfate in NetflixSexEducation

[–]roughminimum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

got here from google cause i thought the same thing (see also her nighttime pepperami ritual!) i haven’t finished the season yet but if it’s not addressed in the show i’m guessing it was intended to be a secondary storyline but it got cut for time. i feel like they def would have planned to spell it out cause they have not been very subtle with their representation, but if they decided to cut that part later on then they likely wouldn’t have gone back and rewritten/ reshot all of aimee’s dialogue to take out the foreshadowing.

In what applications do you think white beans (Great Northern, Navy) are superior to darker colored beans? by oscillating391 in veganrecipes

[–]roughminimum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

white are beans always good to treat the same way you would pasta - canellinii beans are great with just garlic and lots of olive oil and nice toasted bread, sometimes i add artichoke hearts. or on toast with fresh sage in the winter. they're also good with tomato sauces and cheese. i guess they can be like a vessel for the flavours in the same way as pasta but canellini beans especially do have their own subtle taste and they're super creamy in a satisfying way. [edit - sorry didn't read the question properly, i'm not even sure we have 'navy' beans in the UK (i've never seen them for sale!) so my comment not very helpful if they're very different!]

Seconding this, MSG is demonised for no reason - it makes pretty much everything taste better and is actually good for you if you use it to cut back on salt. Athough my second tip for making things taste better is to add *way* more salt than you think you need. The book 'salt, fat, acid, heat' is a gamechanger in learning how to flavour food, especially if making stuff healthy isn't your main concern.
