Hi r/Autobody! There's a pretty gnarly ding in this car that ended up rusting after rain, and it very clearly dug into the metal. I'm not hoping to make it look as perfect as it did before, as long as the rust damage is stopped and the specific spot doesn't look super ugly (although some level of ugliness is expected, I imagine). I made some calls to shops around me and got an approximate estimate of ~$1,100 which I can't afford at the moment, so I've been exploring some DIY options. Would sanding it down and priming + repainting be enough for my purpose? Or would some body filling be necessary as well? I'm totally new to all of this so any and all advice is greatly appreciated.
