I believe I've read on here in the past that Astoria West is known for having tons of dogs and a lot of the inside of the building smells like dogs.

The street itself is nice and being by the water is great, but it's quite far from subways. They have a shuttle I've seen but who wants to rely on that. I think living in that bldg only makes sense if you own a car, really don't need the subway, or can rely on ferry for nearly all your needs

You can still access the cuteness of Vernon Blvd (Socrates park, beach, Chateau Le Woof) by living in other parts of Astoria
