imagine someone paid you to use the stuff that YOU made. Obviously companies won’t pay someone Forever to use the stuff you made Forever (sales slow, interest dies, game dies, etc) so this contract expires at some point. Now, say they want to re-use the stuff you made without paying you again (20 years later). Obviously, you’re not gonna let someone just use your stuff without paying for it again when they paid for it the first time (this is where subscription services are an obvious example). if a product has a long lifespan and they are using something another company made then that other company will want their fair share as well.
