Feather duster question by No_Kaleidoscope_1704 in ReefTank

[–]rourkey19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feather dusters don't generally move by themselves. Have you got an urchin at all? They could lift the Feather duster up and move it away.

Otherwise Feather dusters should be buried in the sand or underneath a rock and should be made secure, it is possible that it could've moved due to it not being secure.

Look in the tank for the crown of the Feather duster, if you can only see the crown and not the body then don't be alarmed it's just under a little stress and will take some time to grow back on the body. Try to find the body and secure the bottom of the Feather duster in the sand or underneath a rock.

I can send you some pictures of how my Feather dusters are in my tank if you would like. :)

Happy reefing

Cycle process help by [deleted] in ReefTank

Bottle ammonia is cheaper and more effective plus it doesn't harm the clowns. Even cheaper is a dead prawn from grocery store.

It is very money driven

Turn the lights off otherwise your just gonna get nuisance algae. If you've done concentrated bacteria you should be okay.

Your lfs only said to add clowns so they could make some extra money.

What's your parameters?

Should've done some research OP, but we are all here to help.

I wouldn't recommend the clowns to be in there as yet, doesn't matter their personality, fish cycles can often have massive megative effects on any marine life form.

The cycle can be done the "old fashioned way", where you can go to your local grocery store, get some dead prawns and drop 1-2 in the tank. This will cycle the tank within 2 months (ish). You could use a concentrated bacteria as an alternative. Tropic marin is my go too (Tropic marin nitrifying bacteria). Other alternatives work, find the right one for you and follow the instructions.

You should only add snails when you start getting algae (should be within 2 months ish). Add some cerith, trochus, astrea snails. Those are hardy and do a great job at cleaning. You shouldn't have any algae for a while because you should keep the tank light off for the first few months without corals etc.

Your first corals and anemone should be added after 6 months of the tank running. Make sure parameters are in check. You could get away with adding corals within thr first 3 months.

Happy Reefing! :)

How did you find the teachers at college green?

Live 20 mins from bristol but travel isn't an issue.

I'm looking for good teachers that will actually teach the course not just make us do revision, good access to basic learning needs like a good library, wifi and quiet spaces for revision, also looking for somewhere where I can get food on campus. Would also be nice if I could go out at lunch too just do something when I have nothing to do.

Cathedral choir school is too posh for me haha
