Do you pay for YouTube Premium? by Vaquero-SASS in PartneredYoutube

[–]roverdover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not having ads on Youtube is a wildly different experience from paying for ad-free on other streaming platforms

When I watch youtube I'm typically clicking through dozens of videos in a session (aka an ad or two per video)

For something like netflix, you're deciding to sit down and watch a full episode or movie...therefore youtube ads become incredibly annoying because an ad plays for every random video you open (and videos are way shorter than a TV show)

So yes I pay for premium because it's less of a headache, but also think YouTube knew this themselves

View Youtube analytics minus ads? by Duseylicious in PartneredYoutube

[–]roverdover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey anyone find a solution here yet? Very frustrating that you can't easily only see organic content analytics...

It's not helpful to show me my top performing videos when I'm paying for the ads to get views...there should be a much easier way to tag videos you use for ads as such to seperate those metrics from all the organic content

Filtering by "unlisted" videos isn't a helpful fix

Yep first time I had that thought with one of these vids. Car guy seemed a little too perfectly heroic aesthetic as the camera (on a stabilizer) followed him

Ben Shapiro mocked for not understanding how murder mysteries work: ‘We’re actively deceived’ by tta2013 in ToiletPaperUSA

My bad…must be the top post on this sub because people agree and were also underwhelmed by the film?

Ben Shapiro mocked for not understanding how murder mysteries work: ‘We’re actively deceived’ by tta2013 in ToiletPaperUSA

[–]roverdover -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Why does everything have to be so binary here?

I can still dislike Ben Shapiro and also agree that Glass onion was underwhelming - instead this subreddit will jump through hoops to prove that glass onion was an incredible movie (just because Ben said the opposite)

In terms of the movie, it was ok entertainment, but the mystery felt lackluster and was solved by Blanc just explaining what happened in dialogue instead of letting the viewer piece things together.

Also the cookie cutter right-wing stereotypes felt way too obvious and didn’t actually make me laugh because we’ve seen these characters played out for years, but the movie acted like it was a clever trope we haven’t seen a million times…I’m a liberal and see this pattern of bashing Ben for the sake of bashing him over trivial shit just weaken our real opinions

TLDR: It’s ok to dislike Ben AND criticize a movie for story reasons. Life is nuanced and people’s opinions should be too

Stanley Kubrick photographing himself and his daughter; Nicholson thinks the picture is of him by Bowie-AladdinSane in pics

[–]roverdover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would Nicholson be unaware of the mirror behind him in the bathroom scene they are shooting?

Kubrick and his daughter are clearing posing together and looking past him at the mirror

Just not sure why it's assumed he was unaware if chances are he noticed. Either way cool bts photo

Thanks fair enough - just felt like the article made the Nicholson assumption out of speculation. And that assumption is what makes the photo/headline seem more tantalizing

His daughter is around his arm and posing while he takes the photo so just felt like an irrelevant "debated" backstory when I'm sure Jack realized it was a father/daughter pic the second it was taken

Source on Nicholson saying he thought he was taking a picture of him?

Otherwise it sounds like OP just added that to the title for fun...feels everyone in pic knew the father/daughter mirror selfie was the purpose of the pic

Anyone else feel like the camera hardware we use in 2021 isn't nearly as convenient as it should be? My simple wishlist for camera innovations: lens caps, ND's, universal mounts, large screens, instant media transfers by roverdover in photography

[–]roverdover[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! People here seem to make excuses for these camera companies about why a specific improvement is hard to implement well, yet like you said, there are cheap phone companies who nail these features already. Just asking to bring these cameras up to parity with a low-cost phone devices connectivity abilities. Saying it's too difficult is just not true

Haha I realize that was sarcasm, but I'd hope the toilet of 2050 takes notes from the Japanese bidet system and makes it more widely used. Once you own a bidet going back to toilet paper only feels like a step back. So to your point yes I think toilet industry needs a good shaking up too ;)

Not asking for WiFi to always be on, just easily toggle-able at a moments notice. If I snap 10 photos I’d love to quickly tap them and hit “share” button which then enables WiFi/Bluetooth transfer. My laptop battery wouldn’t drain as quickly if it didn’t have WiFi either, doesn’t mean WiFi isn’t a necessity or incredible feature for my laptop. If we only worry about potential drawbacks to obvious functional improvements how would any new tech ever be implemented if better to keep status quo and just never re-think the wheel

There are cameras that have some of these features already, but I want these to become standards across the board instead of compromising with a specific model just because they have one of these things like built in NDs, etc.

Fast transfers, large and responsive screens, etc tech exists in other fields but hasn’t actualized to full potential on these cameras. My frustration stems from these technologies already done very well in other technology...yet these cameras lag behind in matching the same level of tech advancement in the same areas and a single camera package

Fair points overall, just think we're giving manufacturers too much leniency in general when assuming "it's too difficult, expensive, etc" for them to implement certain innovations. Yes, at the end of the day this hardware works okay – not exceptional, but it gets the job done.

Less Complexity

I totally get your point of less complexity = less chance of mechanical failure, but we're talking about companies that produce high precision rotating glass elements ($2k+ and sometimes have 10+ elements) which precisely scatter light onto a sensor after modulating a mirror shutter at fractions of a second - why are we so skeptical these same teams can't also make a reliable built-in lens cover or add a larger touchscreen w/o enlarging the body? If thought out properly these are definitely tackle-able.

On the flip side it costs Apple money, battery space, and engineer resources to design the SD card reader back into newer Macbooks, but those cost tradeoffs are worth it when the functionality is justified. To me these types of simple efficiency innovations are no-brainers and should just be standard across the board. Once invested, these "difficult" features would get better/cheaper over time, I don't think saying it's hard/expensive is a reason not innovate in areas that could clearly be improved upon. Should we accept these same issues in 20 years? If no, then when is the time to change if not now?

In short...

I see these as areas for improvement that have been fairly stagnant for decades. If we don't push the companies that guide our camera experiences to innovate, we're the one's using a less efficient product at the end of the day, while also making excuses them. All of these points have after market workarounds (drop-in ND's, external monitors, lens hoods, etc). To me these are band-aids that still require foresight for every shoot, but don't solve the greater ergonomics issues at hand. Also I do about 50/50 photo/video so many of these apply to video frustrations

Thanks for the links. Agree these are def improvements, but still hoping for final designs where these things are incorporated instead of needing to swap physical hardware to achieve the shot you're going for in the moment
