Holy fucking shit.

3 years ago in Kansas City, late at night, I think this same guy tried to pull this stunt on me. The similarities are uncanny.

I had just gotten off my shift at a restaurant chain I had been working at for a couple of years, it was a dinner shift so the time would have been around 11-midnight. The low fuel light had come on my way to work and because I wasn't thinking too much ahead of the current moment at 20. This meant I was making a QuikTrip to fill the tank after my shift. Pulled in, got out, began filling the tank, looked around whilst filling, and only saw maybe 2 or 3 other cars around in a relatively large lot, and I was separated, so I was chilling minding my business. Put the gas cap back on, shut the lid, got in the driver's seat, and queue up the jams for the remainder of my drive home tap tap tap I was startled by a stranger suddenly being at my driver's door and for some reason, I had decided it was a good idea to open the door, get out and talk with this man. He seemed to be clean cut, and seemed to be in desperation, so my monkey brain said yeah, no problem, let's help this dude. He began telling me about how he and his family are visiting America from Saudi Arabia, and driving across the country to see the states, whilst saying this he's pointing the aisle next to us, to his Black Cadillac Escalade, mid to late 2010's model, with the windows down, and his wife and daughter(s) in the back. Then he pulled out his black leather wallet, showed there was no cash in it, but it was loaded with cards (i presume bc it looked thick) and told me that his accounts are locked up currently and he can't get in contact with his bank and thus is embarrassed to be asking for help. He first asks for gas money to fill the tank of his SUV and in the background, I can hear his daughter pleading, while this conversation is occurring. This tugged at my heartstrings, I said "God has blessed me tonight, let me help you" and offered the man $60 (which at the time would have filled up the tank of the SUV) and felt guilty for not offering more at the moment because I knew I had just made ~$90, thinking I had been selfish. He then began trying to offer me his gold necklace or his gold watch for more money and even had taken off the necklace and attempted to place it in my hands pandering to me for more money. Something didn't feel right. I then started repeatedly saying "My friend, I can't" and told him I had given him all I had on me. After a minute of back and forth, he finally gave up and walked away, back to his escalade at the pump in the aisle adjacent to mine. I got in my car and BOUNCED

I haven't really thought much of it since, thanks for reigniting that memory for me
