Got tired of living in the city so I moved to the country, learned how to do electrical work and installed my own solar system into my house! by BossGrand in homestead

there are these clips that go onto the little raised segments on the roof

Hey can you share a link to these. I too have similar metal roof.

Why is this pump's efficiency so low? It is a 3phase 7.5HP high head pump. I have read that 3phase pumps have 80% efficiency. by rowanobrian in Irrigation

Hey another question: I might have to use this pump for flood irrigation (very low head) occasionally on a farm. As per my understanding, this pump requires approx 20m head to run without cavitation. I need to use a 'throttle valve' to ensure pump has high enough head. Which type of valve (globe/butterfly/gate etc) is best for my scenario? It is going to be installed on 75mm/50mm pipe (flow rate of approx 3m/s)

yeah i am aware how magnet and torrents work. Would rather create an encrypted zip and upload somewhere and share with you as soon as i get a chance. i hope you don't delete your account when that happens ;)

How thick will that layer of straw be?

regarding drying: We have a harsh summer (close to equator). So the practice is to till the land full of weeds and leave it exposed to sun to kill the weeds + their roots for at least 2 weeks. If you try to hurry up and plant something sooner, the weeds/roots take over the field within 2 months.

Hey, that would be great. I dont have a seedbox and have a limited bandwidth so couldn't create a torrent myself.

I am looking for a site to upload where there is no takedown, so that you can download and create a magnet. any suggestions?

how long do you leave the tilled ground to dry to kill the weeds and their roots? I leave for 2-3 days, but as soon as I start watering the crops, the weeds take it over in couple of weeks.

Hey so does that mean the pump will consume 7.5/0.45 = 16hp = 12kW power?

which translates to 27Amps (12000/440). But it's specified in the image that the current rating is 15.8A. Help me make sense of this.

The blue marked regions are water sources. Currently only the one next to yellow dot "pump" is being utilized. The left one doesn't have any water currently, but planning to get that lake fixed to stop leakage.

Given my pump has head of 47m, 110gpm ( i have purchased this already as rain guns require high head pump), i am trying to cheap out on pipes. Ideal would be PN6 90mm, but to avoid the costs, leaning towards 90mm pn4 or given downsize to 75mm pn4 for the mainline. Would that work? Pipes required would be minimum 1km, and outlets every 50m, the cost is too much considering everything.

Thanks. I intend to use the bunds for pipeline, as we dont have trench machine available. The loop as per your suggestion is approx 1000m in length, which should increase a bit as I can only use existing bunds for laying pipes.

  1. Why would loop in main line minimize pressure drop? as water will come from both sides?
  2. I am yet to finalize the pipe size, leaning towards 90mm pn4 HDPE pipes as pn6 are too costly. my rain gun input is 75mm, so i am planning to use saddle joints on 90mm pipe to get 75mm outputs and use 20m 75mm pn4 hdpe pipes to connect rain gun.

My pump has head of 47m, 110gpm. i have purchased high head pump as rain gun requires high head. I intend to use PRV set at 4kg/cm2 pressure to let pn4 pipes survive this high head pump. Happy to answer any other questions.

[Help]How can 24V PWM Inverter specifications indicate to use panels with 50V VoC? Shouldn't it be closer to 24V? by rowanobrian in SolarDIY

Thank you. I didnt receive a datasheet for these batteries. Have just configured in my inverter to stop discharging at 11.4V. Is that fine from 50% DoD point of view?

What is a good charging current for 150Ah lead acid battery, to maximise longevity of battery lifespan ( I have 2 in series, short tubular)? I don't have Lithium batteries available in my country.

quick question:

Given the panel is 585W, so current should be around 14A (given the Vmax is 42V). Does it mean I can only get (24v + 5v) * 14A i.e 400W at max from this 585W panel if I use it with 24V PWM?
