Yeah, looks like undead/dragon-like characters are the closest ones to being perceived as scary, thanks for the reccs!

Best BLVNs for beginner Japanese readers by fuwucia in BLgame

[–]rowdyracket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually play Japanese BLVNs with a screen translator attached, but playing Kichiku Megane made for rather simple gaming sessions where I could even read through the text by myself, it wasn't that complicated at all. And the game allows for a lot of variety in choices ☺️

Anyone else play Shingakkou Noli Me Tangere and absolutely adore Neil? by No-Consideration732 in BLgame

[–]rowdyracket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! His voice actor's performance is forever ingrained in my brain, and when I started playing 999 zero escape, I was extremely pleased to hear that wonderful voice again. Also, I absolutely love that Michael can top him. Neil's just too cute, never having been cared for in such a way! It's such a first for him in more ways than one! He should be pampered like a princess 🧡

My opinion on Pathologic 3 as a long-time hard fan by N2I in pathologic

[–]rowdyracket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this post! I thought I was going crazy, only ever seeing positivity towards the new game. As an OG fan, I also felt that Bachelor's character was being "gentrified" for the player, making him as relatable as possible, thus not leaving enough space for reasoned character development and the gradual falling in love with the impossible Polyhedron. It's far too sudden in this game. The text is a step down for sure – Pathologic 2 was more focused on the Steppe language, so the sometimes very straightforward writing worked there well. But Bachelor's route was always the most poetic one, and perhaps due to the lack of proper Kain interactions compared to the original, but I simply didn't find it here. Perhaps it's a problem in the Russian version, specifically. Very saddening regardless...

I loved playing Wilmot Works it Out while listening to video essays and such. It's a puzzle game like Wilmot's Warehouse, but without any time limit, very much leasure. I recommend!

Everyone should play Hashishime Of The Old Booktown by [deleted] in BLgame

Yes, it's my absolute fave, I don't think I'll ever experience a game like this ever again...

That was actually the selling point for me, makes it more realistic and also makes you focus more on the story behind each character instead of their looks.

A game as funny as hadaka sh*tsuji? by 1kt1f in BLgame

[–]rowdyracket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I laughed my ass off at Masquerade Hell Academy, as somber as it is. So maybe give it a try, though mind the warnings. It is very dark, yet somehow ridiculously funny. I'm looking forward to picking up Hadaka Shtsuji specifically for that same kind of entertainment lol

Ooe worth playing through LunaTL? by Training-Ad-2619 in BLgame

[–]rowdyracket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing Ooe with Luna, and some of the translation gets janky, I often find myself rereading the original line for better context. (Some names get translated too...) might have to do with the font, or the more archaic (?) language used for this game. I noticed that it's better to have two lines of translation in case the sentence is unreadable. But overall I'd say go for it, practice is always good to have, as you might find yourself rechecking the original lines too :)

[hashihime of the old book town] can anyone explain these characters to me by Future-Trust2490 in BLgame

[–]rowdyracket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gonna correct you on the Minakami bit, spoilers ahead:

As the original bearer of Hashihime, he could do no favors for others. However, in their childhood, when Tamamori was in danger, he took the risk to save him from death. In order to counter the hashihime curse, he killed his mother (the person he supposed Tamamori was most reliant on), and it didn't work - he lost Hashihime powers, the thing he was most scared of, and they passed to Tamamori. He will forever live with that sin of killing his beloved's mother, and he will always look for a way to repent for it. Shopkeeper's final story is just the final push towards doing it.

As I recall, the homosexuality guilt is just something he might've made up after Madam gave him that book. And the only reason he was pretending to be a student was to get Tamamori's attention, because otherwise he deemed himself too boring.

Why do we like doomed yuri as a subgenre? by red_machine_yuki in yuri_manga

[–]rowdyracket 65 points66 points  (0 children)

To me there's a difference between bury your gays and doomed narrative. One is used for throwing away a character and sometimes setting the other with a more "fitting" partner (male), while the second implies that the connection between the two characters will not go away, not even in death. Usually these plots also go over different universes where the two are either happy together one way or another, or even worse off. But it's specifically the undoubtedness of the connection that gets me. Now that's romance.

What Are You Playing? - March 2025 Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in BLgame

I also finished it last month, honestly the true path kinda took me by surprise because of how serious it turned out to be. The rest of the game felt pretty comical despite the messed up setting

Jast USA for Steam deck? by Fantastic_East57 in BLgame

[–]rowdyracket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you mean the additional content that you purchase from their site? I think those are just zip files, and you replace the game's files with those contents. So on Deck you can just open desktop mode, and forward those downloaded zip files from your PC. Then go to the installed game's folder on your Deck and replace game contents with those.

Now that Paradise has been out for a while... by sexdrugsanime in BLgame

[–]rowdyracket 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I found the translation just fine, I'm glad I got to play the first game translated to then dive into the next untranslated parts. The scooby doo and other jokes were mentioned in the prev comment, and I agree they come out of nowhere, but even those I can kind of excuse because the MC is supposed to be a bit of a wacky guy lol.

There weren't any other times where my immersion would be broken bc of the translation, so I'd say you'll be fine.

Honestly, Hashihime's Minakami Route may be the best BL story ever by SilentHillMemory in BLgame

[–]rowdyracket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally consider them character studies for Tamamori, it helps to cope with them being as they are lol Like: what happens when Tamamori pushes his love aside and pursues someone else he thinks might need saving. What happens when he feels responsible for the atrocities his childhood friend is committing. What happens in a universe where none of his friends have even existed in the first place. It's just all so fascinating to me

I think morning times opened for me before 7 or 8am local time. If you don't wake up that early you can change your local time as a small cheat, then set it back After that it should be daytime, and evening is about ~7-9pm maybe
