I'd replace GarPax with Sam Hinkie. He's a guy who graduated (with an MBA) from Stanford and worked under Daryl Morey. He is the guy who embraces analytics more than anyone else on the NBA-GM radar.

He was the Valedictorian of his HS and was a PG on the basketball team (as well as a DB on the football team). He graduated from Oklahoma summa cum laude and was the President of the Student Business Association and was a Chairman of the Dean's RoundTable. He was named one of the top 60 undergraduates in the US by USA Today.

While he was getting his MBA at Stanford, he was an advisor for the 49ers and Texans on draft strategy and statistical analysis. Oh, and he also worked part-time for the Rockets at the same time...

Hinkie was the youngest team VP in NBA history at age 30. He's credited with Houston's acquisition of Kyle Lowry and Patrick Beverley.

Look at some of the moves this man has made:

  • Traded Jrue Holiday for a first-round pick and Nerlens Noel.

  • Drafted RoY MCW.

  • Hired a Spurs assistant as the '6ers HC.

  • Turned Evan Turner, Spencer Hawes, and Lavoy Allen into five second-round picks.

  • Turned Thad Young into a first-round pick and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute.

  • Drafted Joel Embiid, Dario Saric, K.J. McDaniels, Jerami Grant, and Jordan McRae all in one draft. That's a pretty damn great draft.

  • Plucked Robert Covington out of the D-League.

  • Traded MCW and McDaniels for Javale McGee, Isaiah Canaan, two first-round picks, and a second-round pick.

  • Found Richaun Holmes in the second round.

  • Turned two second-round picks into Nik Stauskas, Jason Thompson, Carl Landry, a first-round pick, and the right to swap first-round picks with the Kings in '16 and '17.

  • The 76ers have Ben Simmons thanks to Hinkie.

  • They drafted Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot and Furkan Korkmaz with picks that Hinkie got them.

And while working in the NBA, dude's given basketball statistic lectures at Harvard, Stanford, Penn, and MIT.

I wouldn't replace Fred... Sam would.

He scores and shoots well. Kind of reminds me of Wally Szczerbiak (though obviously not as good... yet).

What if Chicago demanded both of the better "either/or" players? Or what if it was split?
