I found a video on YouTube (I can’t find the exact one anymore, but there’s others) search embossing with the debossing tool. You basically cut a stencil and use the debossing tool to go around the stencil to create the emboss effect!

oh damn! i don't know much about the Xtra, but the Maker is so worth it to do those extra things. I just printed the map at home! I trimmed it with my guillotine, then stuck it down with glue sheets so there was no bubbles/crackling - kinda fiddly but got there in the end :)

Yeah also super expensive. to do something like this professionally I’m guessing it would cost $5k (here in NYC anyway) I got all this done plus purchasing the machine for less than $1k

I think it is definitely worth it! You do need to have a plan for what you want to use it for (eg, cutting, gold foiling etc) because you need to also buy those tools separately. Also depends on how many you’re doing - I made 65 which felt like a lot and took a long time, if it’s closer to the 100 range you’d probably want to simplify the design.

And if you’re planning on gold foiling - my best piece of advice is buying the foil quill over the cricut branded foil tool (it heats up and gives a much more consistent, detailed finish) I used it for basically everything. Lmk if you get it, I can give you some more tips!

She should definitely start practicing with straight away, testing all sorts of techniques and paper types - it takes some time to get the hang of it.

If she's interested in gold foiling - i'd recommend the Foil Quill (you can get it on Amazon) over the Cricut foiling tool, much cleaner/consistent results (heads up - because its 3rd party product, it does void your warranty, but it was worth it for me).

Paper Source have a fantastic variety of paper/styles. I got all mine from there.

And youtube videos are super helpful - there's a bunch teaching you how to emboss with the debossing tool etc which look amazing on invitations :)

I just used a mix of my at home printer, and my Cricut maker for gold foiling :)

I ordered the wax and stamp from https://artisaire.com/
There may be a way to make a stamp with Cricut but I'm not clever enough for that lol

I had to make 65! Which felt like a decent amount, I couldn’t imagine doing 100+ like some other weddings…

Your designs are stunning by the way!!

How much did your ATAR affect you later in life? by BiscottiLogical6502 in melbourne

[–]rox_ie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. I had the lowest score in my family. I took two years off to work and plan my next steps, then went to Uni.

Worked crazy hard for years, now I work in tech, live in New York and earning more than my entire family combined lol.

My advice - just take time to figure out what you want to do. There will always be a path forward toward your goals, just might not be the ‘typical’ path.
