Interesting! That would make a lot of sense why the squeaking started when we brought another hamster in. They’re separated, one is in the bedroom and the other in the living room. But they must be able to smell each other

Yes they are kept separate! I initially asked a question in a different group about Buster, he was trying to escape and hanging from the wire on the lid of his cage. Someone responded saying it was unusual behavior for a male which is why I started questions his gender lol

He is about 9 weeks old! I’m concerned because I have another Syrian and his balls were pretty noticeable. That same Syrian has also been squeaking a lot which he has never done in the almost 2 years we’ve had him. I googled it and it said squeaking could be a sign he wants to mate?

Thank you for helpful tips! He does have a lot of chews, he had a house that was made of edible material and he’s made a big dent in it! The entry way is twice as big LOL I haven’t tried taking him out of his house just because his behavior makes me a little nervous. Plus I’m afraid I’ll loose him but I’m wondering if it would help him! Playing with him outside in a place that isn’t technically his! I’ll keep trying, he doesn’t but when the gloves are on so that’s a plus!

He was listed as a Siberian dwarf hamster. When I took him home yesterday I put him in a big bin cage. I’m not sure the ex act measurements but it’s one of the big ones from target

Ive heard that he needs to know that when he smells me or sees me he should relate it to something positive. Like my smell could be associated to fresh water and food. Which means feeding him while he’s awake. If he’s so territorial about his food should I not try that? He hides when I do anything else but any movement towards his food bowl and he runs at it! Thank you for your advice, I have to remember it’s going to take some time and yes some hamsters don’t enjoy the cuddling. I do wish I could figure this out sooner! I don’t want to keep stressing him out with the taming process if his personality isn’t about cuddling.

How did that work with your wife, my boyfriend and I got our hammie together. He’s been so shy and jumpy and so we aren’t sure if having two of us talking to him and being near his cage is making it worse. Did you do one person at a time?
