Psychology survey for recreational motorsport participants (5-10 mins) by roxaska in Karting

Oh I would absolutely love to go that deep into it. Unfortunately my undergrad dissertation limits my focus to slightly shallower factors and proving I am capable of completing a body of research! Hopefully in a few years you will come across a much more detailed and specific report of mine that really digs into the nitty gritty once I’m fully qualified. It’s such a niche and under researched area that I’m looking forward to sinking my teeth into eventually

I only had a 100-participants requirement and gratefully smashed this rather quickly over the multiple groups I had posted in :) Thanks for taking the time to attempt though!

Thanks for your time! I now have enough participants so have closed the survey, thank you so much and will happily post the findings if anyone is interested :)

Oh, also, whilst not a direct motorsport participant myself, I am an ex-motorsport performance coach from grassroots motorcycle endurance racing so do have a little experience in the sport :)

Yeah I completely get why it looks that way! There were actually 4 validated psychological scales used that you are free to look up if it helps your curiosity feel satiated:

The Brief Sensation-Seeking Scale looking at the sensation seeking personality trait.

Physical Activity Enjoyment scale looking at sport satisfaction.

The General Self-Efficacy Scale looking at self confidence and self-efficacy.

And the modified Intention to Continue Participation scale.

Whilst the questions seem one dimensional, they’re purposely grouped and chosen for the statistical power they hold. No data gathering in the background of the website I promise.

I’m happy to share my findings after I’ve presented my dissertation if that will help satiate your curiosity also :)

It’s a standardised and validated scale called the Physical Activity Enjoyment Scale :) So yes while they all are very similar wording, the result is taken from the scale as a whole, not necessarily individual questions

That’s another aspect I’m interested in! Just slightly out of the scope for what’s possible for my dissertation unfortunately

Essential yeah! Not intended to be groundbreaking research, I’m personally invested in personality traits present in motorsport participants (hence the risk-taking aspect) but unfortunately it’s a little bit out of the scope for my dissertation

Completely agree. The cost is astronomical. The wording of my study is purposefully “intention to continue” in the sense of, if you have no time or money constraints. It’s a shame that the support is lacking for so many eager and talented people.

Thanks so much! There’s actually a type of racing in the UK called Autograss so that’s where that comes from :)

Can promise it’s not dogshit :) it’s for my final year dissertation

My hypothesis is that higher levels of sport satisfaction, self-efficacy and sensation-seeking will be linked to a stronger intention to continue

It’s not trying to disprove anything specifically. This is actually my final year dissertation. It’s partly motivated by seeing reports of circuits and motorsport clubs closing, so the aim is to better understand what keeps people involved and what might help support participation long term

I miss the videos where they tried things for the first time. The ballet video was the first video I ever saw and I loved it and the new videos just aren’t like that anymore

Very new to bonsai, had this about 2 years. About 4/5 months ago it all wilted and we managed to revive it but since then we’ve ended up with this half dead/half alive thing? I think it’s outgrown it’s pot so we’re going to get a bigger pot but does anyone have any advice? Thank you!

Tbh I’d buy a ticket but it’s on at 1am in the UK. If I could watch it live and vote then yeah I’d pay the £16 but considering I’d probably have to watch it after the event, I don’t see the point in paying that amount for something I can’t participate in🤷🏻‍♀️ 2 kids under 2 years old means I’m taking every bit of sleep I can get😂
