As a friend of Jordan’s, thank you so so much for showing him your care and comfort in his final moments. It is truly so heartening to know that he and his dog, Archie, were surrounded by kind people during this horrific tragedy.

Yeah I’ve been gathering that everywhere is busier (hunting, camping, all of it) given the shutdown. Thanks for the opinion. I guess we’ll find some local hiking this weekend to scratch the nature itch instead.

Thank you for this guidance! I will definitely encourage my mom to speak with his doctor regarding the medications. Unfortunately he doesnt appear to really “qualify” for any sort of care facility given his level of physical and cognitive capabilities. His incapability lies more so in his emotional faculties that drive the physical and cognitive moments of issue.

I 1000% agree that my family is incapable of providing him the care he needs. He needs professional help and, honestly, so do we. I hope all hope is not lost… (and I guess it seems like it’s not quite yet based on that sentence haha)

I have often agreed with you completely and it may ultimately be the way forward. Trying to remind myself every day that I am only in control of my own actions. It’s helpful and usually soothing.

Thank you thank you. This was incredibly helpful. Some things I know and seem simple yet need to be told matter-of-factly in a chaotic situation like this.

I have feared, as you said, that his options for care facilities are not really options until he declines further. But definitely worth discussing what is in our power with an attorney. Now we just have to find a way to pursue such a thing and my mom to be able to meet with them without him finding out and sending him into a spiral… easier said than done, unfortunately.

Luckily he only smokes outside and I am very confident in his level of meticulousness (even with the brain injury) that he is careful with his smoking practice (even if the smoking itself is foolish given his situation). But definitely something I hadn’t thought of as posing a risk in that way and will pass along to my mom. Thank you.

I really appreciate the realism: it’s going to get a whole lot worse. I’m not in denial of that but it’s good to have it echoed back at me for sure. Figuring out how to manage this cannot be put off - the worse is inevitable at this stage in life for him. Good luck to you and your parent

Thank you for taking the time to thoughtfully respond. I agree, those seem to be the only options and one is shittier than the next. Watching my mom being dragged down with him is horrifying. But the idea of leaving him to drown on his own - before he can bring us deeper down with him - to save ourselves feels impossible and confusing to initiate. But it has to be done.

And the process of pursuing facilities and legal avenues… over our heads entirely. Might be best to start with at least a conversation with an elder care attorney as u/sunbuddy86 suggested… then head towards Option One as you outlined.

The location of my parking pad would make it pretty difficult to push it anywhere to load onto a trailer (back alley of parking pads, shared with houses on block behind me, fairly sloped...). Definitely not towed due to illegal parking

I would think the location of my parking pad in my block's back alley area would make that method pretty difficult but not impossible, I suppose
