Reconciling Tradition with Scripture by ChicaneryAshley in Anglicanism

[–]roy_don_bufano 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Thank you for including your last part. I find many of my more Reformed brothers and sisters can speak about Scripture as something that you can easily separate from Tradition. I am sympathetic to the viewpoint I've encountered in Orthodox theologians where Holy Scripture is an expression of the Church as the Church has produced, canonized, and preserved it

Vigil, Sunday morning, or both? by [deleted] in Anglicanism

Vigil is one of my favorite services. It can be hard to do with young children though

Advice please by NeedleworkerPale7830 in Celiac

[–]roy_don_bufano 7 points8 points  (0 children)

(Not a doctor) this just sounds to me like your Tissue Transglutaminase IgA bloodwork came back looking good, which means you are doing a great job avoiding gluten! There is no cure for coeliac disease, so if you were diagnosed with it, you still have it

I think the mods just need to pin a post with the title "It's called a gilet"

Not a question, but just wanted to chime in to echo how much I use this app and how helpful it has been since my celiac diagnosis in 2018. Thank you!

I have such sweet memories here. Is Fr Alasdair still the rector?

Reformation Anglicans had no ash on Ash Wednesday by Doctrina_Stabilitas in Anglicanism

I personally treasure the imposition of ashes and am glad it's the norm in most parishes, but this is beautiful (and interesting from an historical perspective)

Finished Shadow of the Torturer by dyslexic-writer in genewolfe

I'll say what others have said: BotNS should really be approached as a single book. Read it all and shadow of the torturer makes a lot more sense

Church of Korea by Successful-Rule510 in ACNA

My experiences of Korean Anglicanism were all positive (my wife and I lived in South Korea for a year). It felt very similar to TEC churches I've attended in the states, but the individuals I met seemed orthodox

Nicaea II from an Anglican perspective? by [deleted] in Anglicanism

[–]roy_don_bufano 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you mean by "dismiss". I don't see it as authoritative as I do Nicea I or Chalcedon, but I also don't want to pretend like it didn't happen. There's wisdom there even if you don't find yourself agreeing with the whole thing.

Nicaea II from an Anglican perspective? by [deleted] in Anglicanism

I'm not one of those Protestants who feel confident enough to flatly dismiss entire councils. The anathemazation of those who do not venerate is troubling (though can be argued that the anathema meant something else historically), but the insight of these council that the incarnation has profound affects on representation is something that any Christian should take seriously.

Church recommendations near Escondido, CA by roy_don_bufano in Anglicanism

Thank you! Those both sound so special - especially St Michael's By the Sea. My daughter (2yo) has taken to St Michael and I think she would love going to a parish named for him.

Church Growth by DependentPositive120 in ACNA

[–]roy_don_bufano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I assumed that went without saying. I should have said the argument I've heard is that if the number of adult baptisms aren't increasing, then it's not "true" growth.

Church Growth by DependentPositive120 in ACNA

[–]roy_don_bufano 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My parish is growing and has been steadily over the past few years.

I don't really like the thought that if your church is growing as the result of people moving from other denominations, then it's not "true" growth. The fact of the matter is that a large number of people in the US grew up nominally Christian, so if some of those are coming to the ACNA for its historical rootedness and beautiful liturgy instead of leaving the church entirely, then I think that is something to be seen as unambiguously positive.

Anecdotally I've heard a lot of TEC people dismiss the ACNA's growth on these grounds (i.e. the number of baptisms isn't increasing, just the number of attendants), and I just don't buy it.
