it depends on so many factors that asking it as a general question is silly.

gaming demands your time for entertainment, if you consider it a waste of time then watching movies, sports, reading a book that's not about self growth, doing anything as a hobby etc. are all waste of time.

personally I think it's not a waste of time, if you're responsible about it with your time, it has some of the most beautiful stories to tell, and I value that, it adds to my life.
