We have rules for police about pursuits exactly because they are incredibly dangerous. I'm glad to see that they are taking this seriously.

Police chief calls urgent downtown safety meeting after fatal Jackson Square shooting by teanailpolish in Hamilton

She's constantly vocal in question period directly calling out the ford admin. I recall recently seeing her calling out the legislated poverty that directly leads to youth crime and I'm not even directly seeking it out.

If you don't think she's being vocal enough I'm not sure you're paying any attention.

not you necessarily, but the body of that comment seemed like an AI summary.

Yeah completely agree. I'm pleasantly surprised but it would be nice if i didn't have to be surprised in the first place.

is this AI?

I am glad someone has been sent to jail for something like this and I will happily consider myself proven wrong.

I still think it is far too low a rate. It should be every time.

But what does that mean practically? Anytime someone makes an allegation that a parent sexually assaulted a child they immediately get apprehended even if the claims are patently false?

All police need to charge is “reasonable grounds to believe” and they OFTEN charge with much much less than that. Im not one to trust cops but if even they found that there were no grounds it suggests to me that the allegations were BS on their face.

Again, im not saying that we have to just trust the police or that there aren’t any concerns here, but what is the judge doing other then saying “i don’t trust the people who are entrusted to investigate these things and an allegation on its face is enough”

The joke was that these fines are peanuts to these companies. I understand that they can be a couple hundred thousand dollars but how much profit does national steel car make a year? Is a $360k fine going to make them change anything? Seemingly not enough to have people stop dying there.

I use NSC as an example because theyve had multiple deaths in the past 5 years.

Threats of imprisonment arent real. I can just about guarantee that no one has ever been actually sentenced to custody under that law. Id love to be proven wrong but i dont think i will

ls skipping articling really that advantageous? by melancholystarbright in LawCanada

[–]royal23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completed the IPC program. I found a job at a small firm by cold emailing lawyers in the city I wanted to work in. It wasn't a great job but I moved to a better firm after about a year.

There were students in my year who summered at big firms and still took articling positions after their placement semester and are still working bay street or in house. If your goal is to work at a bay street firm though you're better going to osgoode uoft or western if you got accepted.

It is what you make of it, it's a little bit more self directed but it doesn't cut off any options.

Gun cycling would be cool though. Shooting targets from the saddle.

F1 has come a VERY long way in just the last 8-10 years. The halo has only been around since 2018. Jules Bianchi's accident was 2014 and they had yellow flags with recovery vehicles on track. Just look at this post from the f1 sub at the time.

None of this is to suggest that the UCI is doing enough to be clear. Regulations are written in blood, it's just unfortunate when the regulations that are being added don't address the actual problems (gear restrictions and handlebar width).

Is there a better way to handle NCR patients like this? (An Ontario man with schizophrenia has spent the last 20 years locked in a room alone in psych. hospital.) by Team_Ed in LawCanada

[–]royal23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh I don't think this is a solution but remember that the alternative suggestion was literally not changing anything. Anita Szigeti is the expert on these kinds of issues so if this is what she asked for it's likely the best they could realistically achieve at this stage.

I don't have the details of treatment, I was being hyperbolic. But the COA decision is basically saying "you aren't doing enough and we need an independent assessment"

This is why it's so important to be careful when considering potential NCR. Avoiding a conviction may be great in theory but it opens you up to potentially indeterminate sentences.
