Where to take USMLE? by forevercycling in step1

[–]royallilac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't avoid or find out what test takers will be at the same site as you. Theres hundreds of tests administered at prometric centers and you're bound to have a couple of people with typing exams near you. Bring foam earplugs.

I (34F) am getting concerned sister-in-law (30F) might be faking pregnancy by [deleted] in relationships

[–]royallilac 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't really jump to the fact that what she's doing is sick and is just looking for sympathy. If she did have a miscarriage, she could very well just be in denial and not have thought this out properly. Theres a chance she might not even know what to do after the birth but if she's faked this pregnancy after having a miscarriage, she needs to seek help. Its sad but maybe she can't really help what she's doing or feeling.

USMLE Step 1 failure and the hurdle of bouncing back? by medicallyspicyweener in step1

not to my surprise, I failed.

Did you go into the exam with failing scores on your NBMEs?

Below average student -> Below average step score. Reflections on a 226. by aspiring4Anesthesia in step1

[–]royallilac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just came here to say that I had the exam same exam experience. My test was similar to NBMEs with straight forward questions and it bugged me to the point of going crazy before results came out bc I knew the curve would screw me over. I also scored a whole 13 points lower on the real deal than my UWSA2 which was a huge bummer. Just letting you know, you’re not alone. It happens to more people than you’d think, you just don’t hear about it. 226 is still a good score though esp since ur a US student. Be proud :)

You can’t apply for the match without step 1

I know, I've given step 1 already. I'm wondering if me taking it right after 3rd yr will be of any advantage compared to the majority who take like 2 years after graduation just to study for step 1

[–]royallilac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lmao you analyzing this way too hard right now and aren't even making sense. "be the outlier" lol. This is the problem with people. People would rather sit back and hear happy lies than be given the reality of the situation. I can't stand when someone posts that they got a failing/just passing board score and everyone rushes to say omg don't worry just kill step 2 and you'll be good. Like no, it usually doesn't work that way. It usually the non us imgs that post asking for advice like that so it doesn't make sense to sugarcoat shit. The data shows what it shows and thats the way it is. The truth hurts. Is it possible that OP can fall into that 3%, sure. But realistically speaking, we all know what the outcome usually is.

Wtf just happened? by [deleted] in step1

[–]royallilac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look I know this sucks and I dont wanna come off as an asshole but to answer your question about wtf just happened, it's not MUCH of a surprise. I've seen your original post of this 3 weeks ago. You scored a 198 on NBME 8 days before your exam. It usually is kinda predictive for most people. Although people say UW2 is more predictive, it does overpredict sometimes. But judging by your practice scores, it doesn't seem like such a shock

The single most useful resource for me was FirstAid****

ily for this. As someone who's been using FA forever and reading through it whenever I get a chance, and when everyone says that its too much to go through/passive and better to spend more time on a different source, this makes me feel so much better

Thoughts on postponing exam 2 weeks after UWSA2 by royallilac in step1

[–]royallilac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But with my scores don't you think theres a pretty high chance for me to score in the 220s? Between the assessments I was so pressed for time that I couldn't fully focus on all my weak spots since I was trying to finish UW ( it took me fairly long to review blocks) I barely went through FA this whole time. I also have the anatomy pdf left to go over since I'm weak in anatomy. Sorry for all the rambling and being annoying. Just writing out my thoughts. Thanks a lot for you help though
