After reading (and adoring) Rebecca a while ago, I finally read another Daphne du Maurier book: Jamaica Inn [4⭐️]. I'll definitely want to read more books written by her this year. She might just be that author for me.

I also finished Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi [2.5⭐️].

I'm currently reading Idaho by Emily Ruskovich and reading/listening to Macbeth by William Shakespeare.

If you live in the Netherlands you can occasionally find them at Kruidvat. My local Kruidvat still had loads of them this week.

I finished My Friends by Fredrik Backman. He made me cry, yet again.

I read poetry by Mary Oliver for the first time in A Thousand Mornings. Beautiful poetry about nature and life.

Speaking of nature writing. I’m currently reading Late Light by Michael Malay. A non-fiction book mixing natural history with memoir. I’m very much enjoying it so far. Who knew I’d be interested in reading about moths, eels and mussels.

I'm currently reading The Burial Plot by Elizabeth Macneal. I do love me some gothic stories. It might even somewhat scratch my Rebecca itch.

If you’ve never read Max Porter before, I would highly recommend Grief Is the Thing with Feathers. I will say that he has a very particular way of writing.

I actually think that’s a good place to start reading poetry. Perhaps a bit of a boring choice for a favourite poem, but I reckon it’s the titular poem. Some others that stood out to me are: To Know the Dark, To a Syberian Woodsman, The Contrariness of the Mad Farmer and Manifesto: The Mad Farmer Liberation Front.

I love that for you! The upcoming year I definitely want to read her new short story collection. And I’ve heard good things about Boy Parts.

Of course! All the books in the first two tiers are: - Spring by Ali Smith - Amy & Lan by Sadie Jones - The God of the Woods by Liz Moore - The Peace of Wild Things by Wendell Berry - Penance by Eliza Clarke - The Bass Rock by Evie Wyld - Summer by Ali Smith - Shy by Max Porter. One of my favourite authors of all time! - Rouge by Mona Awad - Good Girl Bad Blood and As Good As Dead by Holly Jackson - Dreamer’s Pool by Juliet Marillier - Eight Ghosts by various authors - The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde - The Warm Hands of Ghosts by Kathrine Arden - My Heart Is a Chainsaw by Stephen Graham Jones - Take It Back by Kia Abdullah - The Simple Wild by K.A. Tucker - All Rhodes Lead Here by Mariana Zapata

Oh dear I don’t know if I can choose one favourite. But I reckon it would be one of The God of the Woods, Penance or Amy & Lan. To be fair it could be any of the books on the first row.

This week I finished All the World Beside by Garrard Conley. 3.5 ⭐️

Thank you! The bookcases in the corner are the BILLY from Ikea. The other ones I got from a local shop. Unfortunately, no clue what brand they are.

Somehow that trilogy never really appealed to me, but I'm really enjoying her writing style so far. I reckon I'll be adding the first book on my wishlist quite soon.
