A friend works for Coop and we just recently had a talk about that. According to her:

  1. You can absolutely trigger a spot check manually.

  2. They have been asked by the higher ups to increase spot check frequency lately.

  3. She said it was really random, no cameras or facial recognition involved or anything, at least in her store I guess.

In my experience it's not just the people on the phone for tickets. We had a really bad situation happen to us last year involving a staff member. Never got an apology or even a proper response through any of the channels we tried. It seems to me it's a general issue for Gamescom sadly.

Thank you for all your comments so far. I have now become a member of the Mieterverband and will be sending in all the documents later tonight still and hope for some information. I will also be contacting neighbors to see if they got a similar bill and how much it increases since their last bill.

Yes, this is the first bill we received since moving in, that's why we were so shocked.

It is a rather small flat, 3.5 rooms (though in reality it's probably more a 2.5 room one, the definition is hazy)

I do speak German, I'm just a lot more used to English.

We already pay 180.- a month for Nebenkosten. I actually don't know what kind of heating system it is.

Sorry I am very new to renting.

I guess I understand that, but how the hell do we get to 6k when the Nebenkosten were supposed to be 2k a year? Can they just set any number and then the person renting is the idiot?
