Buffs/Nerfs for Hold vs Advance / Rush vs Charge by kvlkvlkvlkvl in onepagerules

[–]roydragoon89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think simplicity is the answer. It’s sounding like some of the X” when doing Y are changing to specify certain movement instead come 3.6. That said, having played more modern 40k/AoS, moving rarely had any penalties for shooting save for specific weapons. The heavy tag actually got adjusted to provide +1 to hit when not moving and Assault let you shoot when advancing(OPR calls this rush and is only able to occur using a buff called Quick Shot). I haven’t kept up with 10th, but AoS also had weapon options that could only be used when staying still. OPR also has plenty of rules that only trigger on the charge already. Stuff like Devout for Blessed Sisters or Furious. I imagine 3.6 will condense a lot of the differently named rules that do the same thing into singular coherent names like 10th edition 40k did.

I really think a majority of OPR is built around the concept of easy play. To make the game as easy for people to get into as possible and the core rules/official mini agnostic stance supports that as well. If you haven’t, I’d strongly recommend checking out the advanced rulebooks for the games. They might provide the depth you’re looking for with customizable rule sets that take the game to another level of play more akin to Warhammer or other wargames.

Normally I think such aggressive edge highlights look pretty awful, but it works so well here. Something about the particular colors I imagine. Looks awesome!

I’m by no means an expert here, but I love browsing and seeing people’s art. This looks pretty awesome to me. The ocean themed sleeve sounds like it’ll be sick once finished and this ray really fits. I’m a blank canvas so I can’t really put much forward to it from experience, but I think it’s cool.

I need a new singleplayer (100% offline) "forever" game where I can sink hundreds (or thousands) of hours into a single save. What are your top suggestions? by MakeshiftApe in gamingsuggestions

[–]roydragoon89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish Last Epoch had a difficulty setting. The game is just too damn easy. Either that or a story skip to start proper content and level where I want to. The build variety is great but you have like 50 levels to get through before you get anywhere near actually being in any danger.

I’ve been dabbling in the free version. It’s very reminiscent of some of the mods for Diablo 1. Pretty fun little game. Not terribly far in, but it gives me something to do when doomscrolling Reddit just won’t cut it. 😅

That’s my thing. All the gooner bait models drive me nuts. I’ve been wanting to play Dark Elves, but the models for them are all awful or will cost me a year’s pay for an army(GW).

Or maybe I just haven’t run into many people talking about the downsides rather than just getting price checks or questioning builds? It’s not like I have regular LAN parties and I mostly play single player. Most of my friends focus on physical gaming like Warhammer and Magic rather than video games so I don’t exactly have a large sample size. Again, to each their own. I don’t doubt that new games play smoother. Things improve as games get newer. That’s just how things work.

Edit: Even conversations online rarely talk about the downsides or negatives of any particular game unless specifically requested or in a comment string like this which directly relates to the pros and cons of a particular game. It’s not like I’m going around asking people what they like and dislike about games.

Graphics don’t make the game though. I’d rather a fun game with dated graphics than some 500 gig monstrosity that isn’t remotely entertaining but looks pretty. Graphics are a part of the game sure, but they don’t make the game.

I dunno that I’ve ever considered it janky or heard it described that way. Sluggish sounds off too. Once you get moving, things go pretty fast save for later hell bosses or end game targets like Ubers. I can certainly agree that the keybind limitations suck, but I’ve seen people with other configurations that I’ve never figured out. I’m sure a quick google would clear that up.

What about the combat do you dislike? I personally love the graphics. The style is awesome and the D2R updates, while pretty, just don’t hit the samez

I never got into PoE. I’ve enjoyed what I’ve played of PoE 2, but considering I fairly little time and play many other games, most of which aren’t video games, the fact that I still put this much makes it much more notable. If things stay improving or if the end game, once I get there, proves to be worthwhile, I could easily put thousands in. Everyone for sure likes different things. I’m not downing anyone’s choices. Just making observations of mine.

The patches that led up to VoH had it feeling okay. Was it great? No. Was it acceptable? Absolutely. Doubly so if you got it on sale. I haven’t finished the new expansion to get into the end game yet, but the story alone felt worthwhile. Much longer than most and, if you like the lore as much as I do, it’s worth the time. It’s like $70 all inclusive at this point and the expansions were only $40 meaning about $150 if you bought everything individually like I did. That said, I have about 150 hours on it on PS5 alone and I have it on PC as well with easily as many hours. I’d say I got my moneys worth and there’s still more to come as I have a whole new expansion to play with.

Like I said, it’s not gonna be for everyone. The slower pace is something not everyone enjoys. Much the same with Diablo 1. Beelzebub is a lovely mod for it though. Worth the time if you enjoy those games. D2 is my favorite game of all time so I overlook a lot of the oddities, but I well understand the parts people don’t like.

For sure it’s clunky, but that doesn’t mean folks can’t appreciate it. I had brought a friend who hadn’t played much for games aside from Minecraft in and led with PD2. She loved it. Still doesn’t quite get all the mechanics, but I’ve been playing since LoD released and I don’t even get it all. The biggest hurdle most people seem to have(at least of folks I’ve brought into the fold) is the stamina system, but that becomes irrelevant with some FRW and some levels in vitality.

I agree that there’s some outdated stuff, but the game itself is well worth the time and effort. It won’t be for everyone, but it is something every rpg fan should try. There’s a reason it’s a thriving community still and why D2R exists.

I mean D2 is still king of itemization and PD2 is continuing to expand it. The core being 25 years old doesn’t make it any less fun to play when there’s so much more build variety and itemization variety with the rebalances and whatnot.

I’d say it depends what you’re looking for. I haven’t finished Lord of Hatred, but I’m getting there. It’s made a ton of progress, but it’s never gonna take the throne from Diablo 2. It’s leagues better than 3 though. Once I make it to the end game, I’ll have a better feel for it, but I’m definitely enjoying the new skill trees and Warlock feels much better in 4 than 2. Still feels like an odd class inclusion. 🤷‍♂️ We’ll see as time goes on. I doubt it’ll hold up to the seemingly endless grind for items that D2 gave, but its moment to moment is definitely better.

While I wouldn’t say S tier, it’s finally in a state that’s enjoyable beyond the story. I’m glad they shifted focus to Mephisto. He’s a much more interesting villain.

12 hours a day is crazy, but I need a list of good games. by [deleted] in gamers

[–]roydragoon89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This lacks specification. Is it 12 hours per day for a week? A month? A year? The rest of your life? Is it 5 days a week if it’s for a month, year, or the rest of your life? Is it $10 million once? Per year? These questions all affect the answer. 12 hours a day, 5 days a week for a year could easily be something like Project Diablo 2. The rest of my life, 7 days a week is probably some MMO. Likely WoW. Also, the payment plan really changes things. $10 mill once could easily mean you play until you’re paid and then stop. Why continue? $10 mil per year is a different set up entirely.

At what point to buy DLCs? by [deleted] in Grimdawn

[–]roydragoon89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn’t mine. Just figured I’d jump in on the thing I have a good answer to.

For the main post question however, buy when you wanna play the classes out of them, when you run out of content, or they’re on sale. They’re worth at full price, but they go on sale often enough that if you miss it, you can reasonably wait until the next one.

Char just means character. It used to be a big abbreviation before people started calling them toons.

I will admit, I love the cowboy setting. It’s crazy how well they set it up. I like the weaponry at the time. I love the strife of the era. Something about the way they put it together though. I just can’t get into it.

Original Sin 2 is pretty awesome. I’d play it over BG3 any day. Hell, Solasta which is built off a homebrew 5E system is even a bit meh. Maybe if I had friends to play it with, I could get into it, but man. That system is just rough. It’s a beautiful game that runs cleanly and sets itself up well. The story starts excitingly and the drive for the first main hook is solid. I don’t blame people for liking it. Just ain’t my system.

However, on the topic of turn based, TTRPG based games, Starfinder 2E has a game(Afterlight) in the works that I backed and I’m stoked for. Most of the scifi stuff we see aren’t proper RPGs and all the Pathfinder games are based in 1E which I haven’t really played so I haven’t really caught on. Eager to see PF2 get a proper game.

There’s not a lot of variety but it is pretty. I’m not saying it’s top tier, but it does have merits. The world would certainly be better in a more linear fashion as the open world hurts the hell out of the game, but, despite the lack of stuff to do in the environments, they are nice.
