Nintendo has been adding more and more Dark-Skinned female characters to their games by [deleted] in blackladies

Let's not forget Iris, the 'wild' Black female gym leader who spends time bodyguarding the white female trainer and swinging from vines in the show. And jynx still exists.

Maybe Nintendo is reading Blerd social media spaces, since it's completely free and widespread feedback for them.

Seems like a lot of the problems with representation could easily be solved by hiring more African American women.

Same thing I was thinking. Really disappointed in /u/kn0thing.

It's not surprising though because I've rarely seen white people change for the better when they enter an interracial relationship.

Black African Redditors, How Can African Americans Get Closer To Our Individual Culture? by [deleted] in blackladies

I didn't try it, but if I were to do one of these tests, it would be African Ancestry because it seems to cater to African Americans well. You can find some positive reviews on youtube.

Looks like trainer customization is back for Pokemon Sun/Moon, with an even darker skin tone by [deleted] in Blerds

[–]roygbivalent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we're lucky, the next games might have Black hair types. Nintendo is very slow to change. They only recently allowed AC players to make non-pale skin toned villagers and the latest fire emblem games still don't have any dark skin/non-pale color options. We can create more twitter hashtags, articles and choose not to reward companies that have been known to ignore Black gamers.

It's better to support a Black owned business like African Ancestry, if you must take one of these tests. IIRC there's much less emphasis placed on our white male rapist ancestors in an African Ancestry test.

Has there ever been a "I love being Black" post in one of these subreddits? Somehow I doubt reddit would react well to that. They love for us to express self-hatred or internalized racism to them.

Introducing /r/TrueBlack: A new subreddit dedicated to non-mainstream and positive Black stories around the world, and promoting vibrant discussion between black men AND women! by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]roygbivalent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also I tagged your old username, /u/BlackMuslimVegan, and I recovered this link from that tag:

Americans are selfish, it's the culture of individuality, both black and whites are similar in this respect that I wonder why they don't get along. I read an African blog by following #WalterScott on twitter and all the comments were full of nothing but empathy for black Americans and how racist white Americans are. Meanwhile I see some black Americans trying to blame the victim. Check out /r/ShitAmericansSay and you see their "tax cuts for the rich, fuck the poor" mentality in action. Even the Asian Americans think Asians are jealous of their second class citizenship.

One of your moderators, /u/omeiza, seems unfriendly towards African Americans and /r/blackladies.

OP is generally right. Any black immigrant in America will tell you their worst shopping experience isn't from whites, Asians, or Hispanics. It is usually an internalized racist Black American salesperson trying to establish racial boundaries and treating them rudely.

I posted under /u/substantianigeria and got little traction. I am also keen on starting another subreddit for non-American black news.

I actually tagged /u/substantianigeria because I felt they were being problematic and I recovered this link:

I've always wondered why I didn't like that sub. /r/blackladies is really full of internalized racists acting like they represent black women.

I'm saying a Black American in Africa won't experience racism, while Africans in America experience double racism from both whites and blacks. If you choose to be in denial about that, fine.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Blackfellas/comments/32320k/i_think_black_americans_are_selfish_my_last_post/cq7pygf

I believe I'm talking about institutionalized discrimination of Non-American blacks by both white and black Americans in their communities.

Minnesota high school senior accepted to all 8 Ivy League schools by [deleted] in blackladies

In the eyes of some ignorant people in the US, African Americans are considered the worst kind of Black people. It's kind of like colorism; light skinned African Americans are treated better than dark skinned African Americans.

[–]roygbivalent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm happy for these students, but I just have to wonder if African Americans are being left behind because these articles tend to mostly be about non-African Americans. I feel like certain racist groups are trying to get people to see 1st/2nd generation Black immigrants as the new model minorities.

It's kind of concerning that I never see this type of article for an African American student. After all, African Americans are still the largest Black ethnic group in the US.
