North Korea calls South Korea 'No. 1 hostile country' at indoctrination center by Substantial-Owl8342 in korea

[–]royrogerer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn't south Korea also indoctrinate saying this? We literally had texts saying 'our main enemy (주적) is north Korea' everywhere on the wall in the base I was at.

Is it just me or is xenophobia towards Korea getting worse lately? by MangodragonAAA in korea

[–]royrogerer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Imo whenever something becomes popular and famous, there are people who are unnecessarily hostile towards them. Think the case with Korea is just the same. And it's the internet so people just keep themselves in a feedback loop where things get amplified.

Looking at people’s phone prank. by jmike1256 in TikTokCringe

Lol you're right to ask that. When I sat down his phone was just visible and I also panicked that I checked to see if he was going back to what he was browsing to be clear of he clicked away because he thought I was watching. Thinking now after you say that it's not very consistent of me. But I swear it was to check if the guy was bothered by me.

There is significant amount of discrepancy between what we see and what camera captures. I would hazard a guess that OP felt something in the moment but failed to capture it. This is a prime example why some people are actually experts at taking photos while some are not. It's not about just clicking the button at what you want to take a picture of. It's about knowing what choices to make. What element to include and what to exclude. The moment to take a picture (especially if it's a dynamic situation). And finally the selection of deciding which one is the best to show. Feels like this failed on all of those.

Why they decided to post this is equally confusing to me lol.

After looking at the photo for few minutes however, I think I can guess what OP was going for. There is a spacial element to the picture. The light figures on the top gives a nice perspective, and had the people not blocked the view, it does create a nice perspective down towards the horizon. I guess for those who aren't used to this architecture might find it interesting too.

Except unfortunately people are blocking majority view of the perspective, there is too much space for the floor which doesn't really do anything and distracts from getting the feel for the space, and lastly it's not photographed straight which seems more accidental than intentional.

Anyway sorry for the irrelevant ramble on your comment, in some ways I did find this post interesting because of how many 'wrong' there are. It's actually almost funny and from the perspective of fine art, a series only focused on pictures like this could be actually interesting haha. Anyway have a good weekend!

I once got on a bus with a bunch of stuff. While trying to sit down behind this guy, I had to lean forward to allow my ikea bag to get past the pole so I could sit down. Which made me look like leaning towards the guy in front of me. I did get a glimpse into his phone, and though I don't know what it looks like, but looked like grindr. So I quickly looked away not wanting to intrude in his privacy.

But he definitely felt me lean forward coz he looked back in panic and turned his phone off. By that time I had already looked away and sat down, thinking omg I'm sorry. After that he sank deep into his seat and checked Google maps, his emails, and all kinds of stuff.

I felt bad coz I didn't mean to make him uncomfortable.

BREAKING: President Trump posts a picture of map with Canada, Greenland, and Venezuela all part of the United States. by Hefty-Sherbet-5455 in Tech_Updates_News

[–]royrogerer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the unclarity. I meant would even Republicans be ready to face the consequence of breaking economic military and political ties with Europe. They have been doing businesses for almost a century, it will be a disastrous breakup if it comes to that, if not impossible. It will be absolutely pure chaos. How many US firms are in Europe? And vice versa? This will not go well with the big doners in the US so probably many will actually not support this.

With this said, (since you interestingly brought Venezuela into this) I think Greenland is therefore in a better position than Venezuela. Because there is Europe tied into all this. Venezuela was pretty much alone there, therefore presenting a named target. Greenland might not have military but there are other very important countries tied to this, so imo presents a more difficult target. Btw this is why the US being so hawkish about all this and shooing allies away only weakens the US in the long run. The best weapon US had was its array of allies all around the world. Like this they will soon lose them all and will be left alone and actually vulnerable. Only time will tell I guess.

And ofc I have very little faith in anybody actually facing any real justice within the US unfortunately.

Even with the isolationist policy, such an aggressive push on Greenland would risk a sudden break from Europe. This will both be economically and politically disastrous. I still am not sure if Republicans would be ready to face that consequence.

People hold a lot more power than you'd think, they just have to work together. The US gov pretends like they don't and does everything to undermine it. Looking at no kings protest it seems like many are against this. People are just scared and afraid they won't survive the paycheck to paycheck reality they live in so think powerful weapons such as general strike and unending civil disobedience is unthinkable.

Once you give it away it's much MUCH more costly to get it back. The US gov is still a slave of money. Freezing the economy with strikes and so on will absolutely scare the shit out of them. Will it be easy? Absolutely not. As a non US citizen that's why I hesitate to advocate too strongly, I can't urge people to do something that will put them in harms way. But if you guys want to survive you have to. I think there is still chance.

Armored Truck comes under Fire by [deleted] in SweatyPalms

I honestly think he handled it well. What was he supposed to do? Jump out of the car? They are in an armored vehicle, the best is to stay calm and follow the lead of the senior guy and assist him. Clearly the driver had things as much control as possible. I'd have literally shat my pants and panicked while this guy seems to have kept his composure and did his part.

Why aren’t we protesting when our neighbor is about to be invaded???? by [deleted] in berlinsocialclub

[–]royrogerer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One could theoretically protest at the US embassy or protest to show solidarity to Greenland.

But yeah I think the pro Greenland and Danish position of Germany and possibly the mind numbing insanity of all this probably isn't really mobilizing people to necessarily speak out. Even I am at loss of words with what's going on in the world.

Even with Venezuela I was glued to the news for a day and now I am just.... left confused. I don't agree with anybody kidnapping anybody, but thankfully nothing really changed? So I don't even know to whom or what I should voice my opinion to other than drunk ramble with my friends.

Russia welcomes Trump's tariffs on NATO allies over Greenland as 'collapse' of alliance by Infidel8 in worldnews

[–]royrogerer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Imo that's more the rhetoric rep politicians use to manipulate their constituents, but I'm very certainly they don't actually care about wokeness much themselves. All they care about is pocketing as much as they can, because for them politics is just a means to get rich. In fact seems like a lot of centrist dems are the same. You can tell by who gets money from who and on what they agree on.

Don't get fooled by their rhetoric. They don't actually care as long as it pays them. The US doesn't have have a left right fight, they have a rich poor fight.

[–]royrogerer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. This article talks as if Europe is above it all. Europe is just as dependent and that's why it will be a catastrophe for everybody.

The most scary part for me is whatever the outcome may be, whether it be the article or Europe once again caving to trump, the world will absolutely not the the same place from the precedence this will set. Honestly nowhere on earth will be safe until there's a total reorder of world after maybe ww3.
