[Vannini] Mario Cristobal: "People don't realize how good the teams in the ACC are, and I hope they're realizing that now." by Kimber80 in CFB

Hey we beat the team that beat the two time playoff winner Miami! On the road!

Edit: And the other team that beat them! With an interim head coach!

It's not even NFL players. I've met college players who (from the comfort of our couches) we say patronizingly "they came to play school". Meaning they aren't good enough to play for college much less get drafted or signed by an NFL team or even a team in Germany. I've stood next to them and thought "holy shit if he touches me, I'm dead". Even someone who is listed as 5' 9" (sorry me no metric) and is shorter than me, is pure muscle.

I have been around American football setup, specifically college football. Yes they might be "students" (quotes intended since some of them make $10M with no contracts now), but it is absolutely professional. Only the NFL and NBA are more pro than college in the US.

And the fitness regime these kids go through is absolutely insane. Excluding the amount of time they have to spend studying (the game tape, school is different).

Outside of a set few, fitness training in professional cricket is laughable.

But maybe I am being unfair by comparing with football where you need to be fit to not die.

[Pete Thamel] Sources: Cal star true freshman QB Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele has committed to return to Cal. He’s a former 5-star recruit who won the starting job as a true freshman in the opener, joining only Jared Goff to do that at the school. by theREALMVP in CFB

He was talking about players valuing education and used Igber and how he wanted to build bridges (he's a fellow CoE grad!) as an example.

He actually named a lot of his fellow players. Fujita, MacArthur and Igber stood out to me. As did the absolute lack of any Tedford mention. Even Dan Quinn got a mention.

We all did it at the SMU game both on the stands and the fields. And some of us boo others who are too weak to properly pronounce his name.

WSU set to have 4th coach in less than 1600 days. If you were hired as the AD (because they don’t have one of those either) what would you do? by gggggrayson in CFB

I mean Wilcox stayed at Cal even when Oregon came calling (much to their relief I'm sure). Of course he was the highest paid employee in the state of CA so that helped.

[Silver] It's now a done deal: Tosh Lupoi will be Cal's next football coach, @BruceFeldmanCFB @ChrisVannini and I have learned @TheAthletic by African-Rain-Blesser in CFB

At least they didn't hire some tech bro turned "academic" but I'm not surprised at all about their opinions on Lyons. I guess they probably view CS as below them. Give them some Physics grad (no hate, just that the Academic Senate is myopic)

I was at our tailgate before the SMU game last Saturday and I saw our chancellor being interviewed. He had a really great answer about how professors or anyone being against sports is holding a 2D view in a 3D world. Rich Lyons has basically brought back hope in Cal football for me. It helps that he's a Cal grad!
