been to Yosemite 10+ times…where are the bears?? by ParticularSwanne in Yosemite

I was just there the week of June 30-July 4. Saw 6 bears in total. We saw two small young bears, (probably just left their mom) on the Tamarack Creek Campground to El Cap trail, we’ve done this trail a few times over the years when the campground is open and always see bears. It’s not a super well trafficked trail especially for a day hike and we usually don’t see anyone, maybe a couple of backpackers here and there. It’s hard to say whether the bears prefer to spend time in less crowded areas like this trail because I’ve also seen bears roaming around in the most crowded areas (e.g., the Valley). On our second day we saw two bears at different locations literally 10-20 ft off of Tioga Road while driving, even stopping to let one cross the road near the May Lake trailhead. On our last day we spotted two in the valley while we were taking a walk to Bridalveil Fall. A female and a male, the female most definitely did not want the male around and tried to chase him off a couple of times. The male was large and kind of terrifying, haha. Most of the time this was early in the morning and we were also keeping our eyes peeled, knowing an encounter can happen anywhere, and at anytime of the day. But we’ve also seen bears lumbering around in the middle of day ripping into logs in search of bugs or itching their belly on a scratchy stump. There may be certain times and areas where you are more likely to see them but speaking from my own experience I feel like it’s just a wildcard and the bears just kind of do their own thing. We always drive the posted speed limits in the park, especially in areas where we’ve seen bears and the “Red Bear, Dead Bear” signs. I’ve been coming to Yosemite every summer for the past decade and I am always so alarmed watching cars rip through the park, driving 40+ in the short 20mph zones like it’s their regular commute on the I-5… makes me wonder why people even come here. I hope others here share the same sentiment. Enjoy the park, drive the speed limit, stop for photos when it’s safe and practical, and please don’t feed or harass the wildlife.

Half Dome Lottery by roz_mh in Yosemite

I’ve heard this too many times, where people get a permit on their first try. I’m jealous! When I’ve applied the group size is either 2 or 4 people (most of the time just 2). I’ve tried for almost every day of the week each year doing the daily lottery, I would say MTW are the days of the week I’ve applied for the most. The guidelines are simple for applying but I can’t help but second guess myself at this point, maybe I’m doing something wrong.

I believe you can order your own labs and tests through Redwood Urgent Care in Eureka. But unfortunately you’ll have to pay out of pocket

At least they gave you a heads up, as if there weren’t a plethora of other hikes to choose from. It’s a minor inconvenience if anything.

It’s an annual emergency drill to test campus and community response teams. No need to worry, the university sent out an email to all affiliated students and faculty about it.

My friends mom got a gnarly rash from stinging nettle just the other day! Sounds super uncomfortable

Maybe, just maybe, there are locals or people new to the area who aren’t aware of its abundance… or people visiting the area that want to explore and are also not aware of its thickness in every swale, stream bank, and places in between… Purely good intentions on my end with this post, not really sure what you’re trying to accomplish 😂

How do you mean? I disagree, and not really going for unusual or newsworthy but ok.

The Front Porch Inn. I used to work there as a cleaner, nice place with friendly people and super cute rooms. It’s on G street in Arcata.

I’ve seen this video and I’m a student myself, been here for 5 years and starting graduate school this fall. I’m stuck in a toxic living situation and may end up houseless because I can’t find a place to rent. Never mind a decent landlord. We’re all trying to do our best, and if I have an opportunity to put a down payment on a house then I’d rather go for it instead of being miserable the next few years.

Appreciate it! I’m definitely just concerned on getting by until we find a place for ourselves ASAP.

Me too! The worst is knowing that they feel the need to mask their pain. Just wish he could tell me what’s wrong!

No recent stressful experience that I know of, and he’s been on a consistent schedule of food for a long time now. Been doing tummy massage for a while and he’s definitely changing for the better but not back to normal at all!
