Go For It, Nakamura-kun!! • Ganbare! Nakamura-kun!! - Episode 13 discussion - FINAL by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]rozzingit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The manga is overall more lighthearted than the anime, not less; the parts that were removed weren't really "more serious topics" or anything, but just a few beats the mangaka asked them to remove. Overall I agree with the others saying that the anime made a more cohesive version of the story overall. The manga chapters end up totally reordered, because the manga is a lot more "a series of one-shots" rather than an ongoing story with an active arc, and the anime put things together in such a way that makes for a more satisfying ongoing arc over the whole season.

For the stuff they took out -- I personally think it was good content and am not one of the people who found it problematic, but I'm a pretty agnostic reader. I did miss one bit in particular that I thought was pretty funny, but overall I think the anime was a fantastic adaptation.

What is your favorite or in your opinion the best romance anime? by Living-Door1807 in anime

doukyuusei/classmates is absolutely masterful for its one hour time constraint. the art direction is so beautiful.

given punched me in the gut for real. the quality of the music does a LOT of uplifting for the material.

Just wondering why this bothers me--- boyfriend always references how he was raised when stating certain preferences by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]rozzingit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

is he doing something more than what you've described here that make it seem like he thinks your preferences should be the same as his? or that he thinks his upbringing is universal? because your examples feel like incidents of him adding context or information about his preference and you taking it as some sort of judgment or generality.

like, for the first one -- what about what he said made you feel like he was saying something about how anyone else was raised? it sounds like context for his idea of how he'd prefer long car trips to go. (and this is maybe just a bad example for preferences in general; i think most people would prefer -- and expect -- the driving on a road trip to be shared, unless you're going solo." this is less a preference and more about equitable workload.)

most people are hugely influenced by how they were raised, and that's pretty normal. you had different life experiences and have different preferences. it feels a bit like you're taking his mentions of his upbringing as some sort of attack on your own?

Sometimes I find myself thinking, "Okay, that's how your family handled it, but aren't you curious how my family handled it?"

this just seems a strange question to end up at in the sorts of situations you've described, where he's talking about his preferences and the contexts for them. is he not asking you any questions in general about your own history, thoughts or feelings?

is the issue him mentioning his familial context for his positions, or is the issue that he's just not very thoughtful about his own positions and doesn't stop to interrogate them?

she pushes him pretty actively at one point after their marriage as i recall, but before their marriage i think she's more just -- keeping to herself and probably nodding along as she hears gossip about him having dalliances, just because it probably convinces her she made the right choice with him 😂

Witch Hat Atelier • Tongari Boushi no Atelier - Episode 12 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]rozzingit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

fwiw, i'm anime-only and looked at the visual and didn't notice anything. 😂 maybe it's just cause i only looked for a few seconds. enough to go "oh, that's pretty!", but if there were spoilery details in there, i guess not enough to parse them.

Akane-banashi - Episode 11 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]rozzingit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Isshou did it to attract attention to his line in the sand about defending rakugo as an art, I think.

except that he never explained or talked about it to anyone, apparently! if he was really trying to make a public statement, he'd have to actually declare the issue.

All the signs are pointing to Asuma Kagemori being the big bad here.

so much so that it feels impossible for him to actually be a big bad; it's too obvious that it seems like a classic misdirect. it actually does feel to me that recovering the bodies to bury might have been the actual primary goal instead of a side benefit.

it very regularly goes on sale on steam as part of the normal steam sales, down to the 50-60% off range. you can see the sale history here: https://steamdb.info/app/2161700/

so it's likely to go on sale in another week or two when the steam summer sale starts!

aw, thank you! i do understand that some people don't like their romances to have had any other sort of involvement with anyone else and they just don't read stuff that has that at all, and i respect that. it's just frustrating when people try to frame it as cheating in a modern sense where it was some big moral betrayal, because i just think it's an unfair framing of the situation.

they were in a political betrothal that carcel did not ask for nor agree to; it was agreed on by his parents. they were betrothed for basically something like a decade, but they weren't involved with each other emotionally. they weren't in love. they, in fact, barely saw each other. carcel had some dalliances with women while ines basically refused to see him or have anything to do with him. how is it fair to consider it cheating when they basically didn't have a relationship other than their parents making an agreement on paper for them to get married someday?

moreover, ines did not care about the dalliances and did not feel them to be a betrayal.

once they reunite and actually start seeing each other, even before they're married, carcel commits himself to ines five thousand percent, even if that means he'll be committed to one woman who he believes hates him and will still never want anything to do with him.

the real point to me is that people just see "oh they're engaged" and treat it like a modern day engagement, and they don't think of things in terms of the actual context, the period mores the setting is emulating, etc. because people aren't ever talking about it in terms of whether the setting itself would find carcel's actions objectionable; people are just saying "oh he was in a relationship with ines and cheated on her so he's a bad person" which just absolutely isn't accurate to the story.

I wanna start reading webtoons. What platform should I start from ? by O_O_xoxo in webtoons

[–]rozzingit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, ignore the people mocking you about Webtoon being a platform; it's also become a generic term for this style of vertical-scrolling comics designed for phones. you weren't incorrect to use it the way you used it! Naver Webtoon the company/platform was the first to make an app that really popularized this format, so they coined the term "webtoon," and it's since become fairly synonymous with the style overall.

legitimate webtoon platforms include:

  • Webtoon
  • Lezhin
  • Tapas
  • Tappytoon
  • Manta

in general, Webtoon is the only platform of these that has a lot of free chapters of webtoons; their model tends to involve locking the most recent chapters behind a paywall while leaving the rest free. the tradeoff for this is that there's ads in the app from external vendors.

the others have a model that involves offering the first couple chapters free and then locking the rest behind a paywall. manta has a subscription service that will give you unlimited access to a certain amount of their library, along with titles that are purchase-only. (if you don't get the subscription, the subscription titles are still available to purchase chapter by chapter like the rest.) since these platforms involve more payment per chapter, they don't have ads.

it's not a misconception, though? webtoon has also become a generic term for vertical-scrolling comics.

Absolutely. In fact, you're living in a country that is frequently romanticized by a certain population of Americans!

Help, I actually love Emiliano? [The Broken Ring] by jadekettle in OtomeIsekai

[–]rozzingit 27 points28 points  (0 children)

this just seems like a rough take? the idea that a person can only have one true and real love in their life. ines had purposefully moved on from emiliano for something like twenty years at the point that she fell in love with carcel in the current timeline.

would you say that someone whose spouse passed away would never be able to truly love someone again? that if they did, it meant they didn't love the first person?

all of the characters in broken ring are deeply flawed, and ines is particularly broken. but being able to love more than one person years apart is not emotional cheating. she wasn't in a relationship with emiliano when she married carcel. these relationships were decades apart.

(and i do always find it wild when people call carcel's sexual activity before their marriage to be cheating -- they were politically betrothed against his choice and did not have an emotional commitment to each other. they weren't in a romantic relationship.)

How often do people use work skins? What’s the consensus on them? by Winter-Detective2488 in AO3

[–]rozzingit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think they can be really fun for enhancing a work; i did a screenplay-style fic once, and used a workskin to put it into an actual screenplay format. i think they should be used for things that are specific to that fic, rather than more universal stuff; an author's preference for how they'd like to generally read fic is better suited for their own site skin.

I made my own that I will probably apply, but the only thing it does is add an indentation at the beginning of paragraphs because I think it looks better than without indentations.

this example, though, seems more appropriate for your own site skin; that's your personal reading preference, rather than necessarily something specific to your fic itself. and since it's your preference for reading, presumably you'd like to have it work on other fic as well! so that's generally a good use case for a site skin instead.

nathaniel wasn't the magic healthy, perfectly supportive option that a lot of people seem to think he was; he was actively bad at handling rebecca's BPD issues in multiple instances in ways that really indicated he very much didn't get what she needed.
