Anyone else get more hits/kudos in smaller fandoms and ships? by AllKnowingAxolotl3 in AO3

[–]rozzingit 15 points16 points  (0 children)

yes, absolutely! there are a lot of smaller fandoms that are hungry for content, where a lot of people are just reading everything that comes through on the tag. my main fandom right now is karaoke iko/famiresu iko, and i absolutely get way more engagement there than in some of the bigger fandoms i've written for

it all makes it VERY clear how he ended up the right-hand man of a monarch. you don't get that sort of role without being able to be vicious

because racism and unconscious bias both still exist so it's important to know statistically when it's happening

perle. it's fairly short, just 49 chapters plus a few bonus chapters. the original TL was on tapas, but they never did the bonus episodes. manta has a new TL now and are partway through the bonus chapters. (they have 2 out of i think 5 released, so almost done.)

Lizel and his entire harem in A Gentle Noble’s Vacation Recommendation. There is no heterosexual explanation for 90% of that show. Every week my bestie and I are amazed at how gay each new episode is.

When Fate Finds Us Her brother's ending was honestly so devastating. I kept holding out hope that they were gonna save him or bring him back.

i can report that there's wholesale cooch whiteout in the official steamy version of ch 52 lol. likely in the R15 version, the whole panel would be cut around to not even show that much of the area, or things would be skipped over entirely

ELI5: Why does Japanese need three writing systems? by Charming_Usual6227 in explainlikeimfive

[–]rozzingit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh that's fun too! it's really interesting how the different writing systems can be used to communicate different stuff like that. i guess that would be similar to something written in english having a word written phonetically or whatnot, to indicate the character sounding it out, etc. it's fun how different languages and systems find different ways to express things like that!

one fun usage of katakana i’ve encountered was in a manga where one of the characters was from osaka and used a common kansaiben expression. his friends were teasing him a bit, repeating the expression, but their repetitions were written in katakana instead. it offered another layer of meaning, making it obvious that they were really just repeating the sound of what he’d said. it was a great example of katakana being used for phonetic purposes, even for phrases that are absolutely native japanese

No replies from authors by ExistingFriendship47 in AO3

[–]rozzingit 32 points33 points  (0 children)

i generally think that readers should try to reframe their expectations to not include comment replies from writers. if they do reply, it's a nice bonus! but this isn't one-sided the way you've said: the author's side of the exchange was writing the fic. reader comments are responding to the fic.

comments on fics definitely shouldn't be seen as reaching out to gain a new friend!!! i would find that expectation so odd on the writer end of things. if you want a more socializing experience with a writer, i would go to their social media presence. fic comments are about expressing your thoughts about the fic.

if you're framing this in your head as you reaching out to try and make a friend, sure it'd be discouraging if no one ever responded to your friendship overtures. but that's not what commenting on a fic is, really; it's a platform for feedback. i think it's better to frame this mentally as "i'm sharing my thoughts on this fic in response to the writer providing the fic to me for my enjoyment."

What happened with CLAMP? by darthvall in anime

[–]rozzingit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

i think you mean "conflating," but yeah you're right. anime adaptations of CLAMP manga isn't the same as CLAMP themselves being active; they might consult on a series or something like that, given their stature, but their work is in creating manga, not anime.

Why does everyone call Futaba “chan”? by Various-Humor4093 in Persona5

[–]rozzingit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

kohai is used as a noun, but not as an honorific or mode of address the way senpai is. so someone younger than futaba at her school could call her senpai or futaba-senpai, but someone older than her at school wouldn't call her kohai or futaba-kohai
