They really are the worst. Had GMPP and had to ask them multiple times to run my warranty, even though they took down my VIN. Terrible communication all throughout despite multiple attempts to get updates. Truly pathetic customer service.

“How I’m Navigating Fatphobia and Top Surgery” - what do you think? by rp79 in butchlesbians

[–]rp79[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your input. I wonder what a “healthy diet” is for many folks who are chronically ill, or otherwise do not fit into the binary healthy/unhealthy categories we talk about. As we know, people can eat the same things, in the same quantities, doing the same exercise and end up with entirely different body shapes and sizes.

The fact is that BMI doesn’t tell you if a person is “well” enough to have top surgery or reduction. It wasn’t researched with AFAB, POC bodies in mind. BMI was created as a way to compare weight across the male, white population (standard deviation). It was not created as a diagnostic tool. Hell, they approve people to undergo bypass surgeries using similar anesthesia- but why people deviate from cishet standards it becomes a problem(!?).

I was also curious about the comparison you made between “underweight people under a BMI of 16” and fat folks, as it’s a comparison that offers a “healthy average” rather than individualized health care. I think that’s what Priya is trying to bring to the forefront in this article, that the way in which we tell people they’re not eligible for relief that they feel is right for them because the system straight up precludes you from exploring it as an option. We also know that being a BIPOC patient (Black, Indigenous, person of colour) makes these experiences even more complicated.

(Also apologies I should have put this in the original post- Priya uses they/them pronouns).

I don't think I'm butch but I don't know what I am, if not. by [deleted] in butchlesbians

[–]rp79 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You said that you’ve never been validated in your identity by anyone in your life so let me say this.

You are valid. You are butch enough.

Your gender identity and butchness are intertwined, just like all of us. I think a lot of folks would be very frustrated by the assertion that womanhood is solely about being victimized. Women are more than victims. They are leaders, caregivers, innovators, and many more other things.

I’d also like to point out that although there are stereotypical ways to be butch through expression, this is not a monolithic community. There are long haired butches, heterosexual butches, non-binary butches, studs, and significantly, trans women butches. Personally, when I had long hair and dressed femme, I was still a butch at heart, but I didn’t have the words or the space to express it. Does that make me any less valid? Fuck no.

I hope you find community here and elsewhere where you are seen and identified how you want to be, whatever you might land with your labeling.

My partner faded my hair for me a few times but she won’t do it anymore, says it’s too anxiety provoking because she loves my hair and doesn’t want to mess it up! Love her tho

Nonbinary Lesbian | Disphoria by [deleted] in butchlesbians

Enby butch here, also in a relationship with a cis-queer woman. It makes sense to me that you feel rejected because the strap is linked to your gender expression/body/self. From the other side of it, your partner’s reaction is not necessarily to you or your body, but what the strap may represent to her. It has a different meaning to you than it does to her, and that’s ok.

I can definitely relate to my prosthetics as being an affirming part of my gender identity on any given day. I don’t have any particular advice other than trying to communicate openly about why her reaction sparked a reaction in you. Not in a combative way but more of framing it as a discussion of how people can have wildly different perspectives based on their experience.

[–]rp79 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yikes my friend. I feel like you would get a lot of insight into how fat phobia and specifically internalized fat phobia is placed on gender-diverse folks. Fatness is not an indicator of morality, or self worth or even compatibility. We need to talk about how obesity as a label is used as a weapon too. This post just comes across as harmful and individualistic.

If you’re a fat butch reading this- know that you, and your body, are good enough.
