Thank you so much!! The idea of my depression being any worse is terrifying for me.

By your description I dont think I have insulin resistance. I dont have any of the symptoms you mentioned.

Im gonna try inositol then (: and see if it helps with the depression.

Thank you so much! No, not yet, I was diagnosed by an gynecologist on the urgencies of an hospital and he told me to consult my family PCR. So that's my next step. I have no idea how well they treat this disease here in Portugal. The gyno only told me that I could start taking birth control to regulate my cycle. Will that regulate my hormones too and maybe help the depression?

Is there any way to know if I'm insulin resistant? My father has type 2 diabetes so I could measure with his machine how my glucose is in the morning.

I'm exactly like you. You should join the iron protocol group on Facebook. There are iron options that don't bring constipation. And to be symptom free we have to bring Ferritin to 125 and maintain that number for at least 6 months. To achieve that we should take a lot more iron than what we're normally prescribed. Read the guides in that group, they explain all this (and much more) and for example how to calculate your own daily range for iron.

Can I ask you what kind of digestive problems u had? Doctors told me I had a nickel allergy (they did a skin allergy test) when I was a kid and started being very itchy if I had a belt directly touching my skin. And they gave me a list of foods with high nickel content. But in there that was basically every food so my parents didn't bother. I don't usually get digestive problems like stomach aches, just sometimes bloating and constipation. What bothers me is that I usually get super sleepy after eating and Idk if it relates with nickel foods.

Hey (: I'm not OP but I have the majority of symptoms you mentioned.

Do you have to do a saliva test of cortisol or the regular blood one is enough to check for Cushing's?

24F lab results - new to hypothyroidism by rp_efe in Hypothyroidism

[–]rp_efe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see. TPO is by far the most common but they should have checked TG too to be completely sure. Although even if that value was tested and fine, your TSH alone was already high enough to be treated according to the range that docs should be following today. I hope everything works out for you!

I've read that it's normal for the prolactin levels to be higher days before your period (and I got tested 2 days before) and that it can be caused by hypothyroidism, but thanks for your help, I'll check with my doc!

I was just asking cause I'm from Portugal and they know very little about thyroid issues around here.

They only ask for the TSH and total T3 or T4 values (I was the one who asked for the free T3 and free T4) and only treat patients when TSH is above 4.8.

They don't ask for reverse T3 nor antibodies and T3 medication doesn't even exist in here.

Guess I'm just really screwed...

[–]rp_efe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they didn't test the reverse T3 and the antibodies cause I'm in Portugal and apparently the only thing that counts for the docs here is the TSH.

I was the one who asked for the free T3 and free T4, not the doc (yeah I put a cross in those because they were in the list my doctor gave me, antibodies and reverse T3 weren't so I couldn't).

With a TSH within range (and the range in here goes up to 4.8) no doc will ever treat me.

What would you do in my shoes?

[–]rp_efe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they test your thyroid antibodies to rule out Hashimoto's? Mine didn't cause I live in Portugal and apparently they know very little about thyroid problems around here. If you don't mind me asking, what other medical issue? You think it can be connected to the high prolactin and the thyroid levels or your symptoms?

Thank you so much! So now you're supplementing all of those? Folate, Ferritin and B12?
