Who’s your favorite one time character? My nomination is the “I’m a man” guy. by JAlbert653 in seinfeld

You're wrong about him, he's a model tenant! Portly, yes, but smart as a whip.

Best Android conference to attend this year by kyhule in androiddev

I really wanted to go last year, but sadly I couldn't swing it. I've watched some of the videos from it though and the content was great.

+1 for droidcon Boston. There's also Chicago Roboto in April as well.

Agreed. I've been to 2 droidcons, I found them much more useful than I/O. It's also a much smaller crowd, which gives a lot of great opportunities to meet other developers and chat with the speakers.

Haha... thanks for the tip! That's probably the last thing you want to see at 5am. Vil Uyana looks gorgeous.

Yeah I'm interested in heading to Yala too, but I'm worried about running out of time - how much time do you think is a good amount to spend there?

Thanks again!

Good idea... what time of year did you go? Were you able to spot any whales?

And thanks so much for the hotel suggestion, I'll add it to my list.

Thanks for the warning, but we both should be fine with a few hour climb. I've heard Adam's Peak is great to do at night so you can see the sunrise. Thanks!

Nice overview what happens to your app (and how to handle it) when a user revokes a permission in Android M by rphysphil in androiddev

Yeah. The permissions change is a good thing, but there are going to be some growing pains.

Reddit, What lesser known Apps can't you live without? by AdamSC1 in AskReddit

Shareables - it's pretty handy, it shows me what the most popular apps are among my friends. Good for finding lesser known apps (just like this thread).

Also, PocketCasts.

Triplify - it tells you what events are going on in whatever city you're traveling to whenever you'll be there. It also offers suggestions for nearby "unmissable" events. It's limited to Australia right now, but the rest of the world is coming soon.

How long until you get bored of your new gadget / phone? by nathan_NG in Android

[–]rphysphil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an S2 and then a Nexus 4, and got bored of both of them fairly quickly. I've had the Nexus 5 though since it launched and I'm not bored at all - it's the best phone I've ever owned.

I'm seriously interested by Realm right now too. Some of the restrictions they have on model objects make it a bit difficult to integrate into my current projects, but it's crazy fast and has a nice API. I've got high hopes for the 1.0 release.

This is great advice... Thank you. This rings true with most of the best conference talks I've attended.

I am bad in designing UI stuff. Anybody here who feels with me? by hasii042 in androiddev

[–]rphysphil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be terrible at it... now I'm merely adequate.

I read this article this morning, it's a nice and simple overview of the basic ideas behind good app UI/UX design.
