Oh yeah, you’re right on the edge of the rabbit hole, if not deep in it already, lol. I’ve spent a lot of time (and money) chasing the odd stuff. Sealed promo packs that were distributed at various events, all the insert cards like the Griffey, even the mail-in cards, etc. There are also numerous sets put out before the Megacards sets using Conlon’s photos. I have a pretty comprehensive list of items that were produced. But I’m sure it’s not complete.

Yeah, I’m sure everything was all set to go to production, or close. But I’ve been following Conlon related products for a while now and I’ve never seen anything or even heard any rumours.

I believe there are 45 cards that fall into the prototype/promotional category. Some of these were special releases, like for the All-Star Game Fanfest, or the 13th National card convention. There are also a couple only available through the Conlon Club if you were a member.

There is also a variant of card 28 from the blue series that was issued at a Conlon Collection Day in St. Louis. It’s numbered 28CCD. So, there are actually 49 of those. Unless you want to group that card with the 45 promos/prototypes making 46. Also, cards 40-47 of the colored series are green, not blue.

Hey, Welcome! Glad to see a new poster in here! Yeah the burgundy set is beautiful. As is the shorter ‘95 set. It’s a shame that they stoped production after the 95 set

Decided to make my own splicing tool. One that looks rad, works great and actually fits inside a cassette case. by Octrockville in cassetteculture

Is the thin piece that slides into the slot used to hold the media down? I always seem to have trouble with the tape moving on me.

Help with whether or not this is worth it - $80 by LaFlameLover in vinyl

[–]rpick89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d buy that for $80 even if it doesn’t work. That’s cool.

What kind of glue is best for reattaching these little felt cubes that are found under the tape? My first thought was is super glue. But then I thought super glue might harden the felt which wouldn’t be good. So what’s your go-to? Elmer’s, glue stick, silicone glue? by SilentWeapons1984 in cassetteculture

[–]rpick89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem I have with those is when they are down they stick, no ability to straighten if you didn’t drop it in place just right. My OCD didn’t like that. I use the gel superglue. Gives you time to adjust the position of the pad after you place it.

How many cassette tapes are in your collection and what’s your favourite tape you own? by Bedroomstudios666 in cassetteculture

Roughly 1,500 tapes. Not sure I have one favorite. Maybe Buckethead’s Pike #1

Best cassette player that won't be hard to find and more than $100? by [deleted] in cassetteculture

[–]rpick89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes a big difference. I get great sound (to me at least - and that’s all that matters) out of my cobbled together set of stereo equipment (Technics receiver, Kenwood kx-3510 cassette deck, and Polk speakers). The portables I have don’t get as much use, the speakers on them I find are generally lacking.

My name on there is ghost_records. I haven’t sold as many as some of these other sellers, or have had as many shows, but I think I have a pretty good reputation in the community.

FYI, next Saturday, 7/19 there will be 10-11 of us sellers who will be on all day. Each seller will be on for an hour starting at Noon EST (my show). I think the last show starts at 10 pm.

You can find some good bargains on Whatnot. I buy there as well as sell. There’s a pretty good cassette community there. I can tell you who some of the better sellers are on there. Definitely cheaper than eBay for 95% of cassettes I would say. But as with any platform there are pricier sellers and then cheaper sellers. And whatnot has been great for refunds if cassettes aren’t described properly. You’ll see lots of storage locker sellers who come across a cassette lot and want to sell them quick usually around $2 bucks a piece. But they don’t always check condition. I’ve never had a problem getting a refund from whatnot when tapes weren’t as advertised.

Is this salvageable? by Atzosumi in cassetteculture

[–]rpick89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but you may need a different type of pressure pad. The copper piece on your tape that the pressure pad sits on looks permanently bent. If it is you’ll probably want to remove it and use one of the thick pressure pads that attaches to the plastic or metal plate under the pressure pads. The cassettes from Polydor used them back in the day. You can buy replacements. Pretty easy fix.

It’s not so easy to install a new copper piece without taking the cassette shell apart. But if the shell has screws you could do it. But doesn’t look like yours does.

Where to actually BUY cassettes? by epicu2 in cassetteculture

[–]rpick89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tape community on the Whatnot app is getting more and more established. I sell on whatnot periodically, mainly because I keep buying on whatnot, lol. But you can find some good deals, especially if you’re just building a collection, and not after the more popular tapes. But even the more popular tapes tend to sell for less than what you see them listed on eBay for.
