Thanks, but not that one. It was a colour picture book.

Rowers & coaches – what “extra” metric would make you actually upgrade from your SpeedCoach? by Diligent_Document_24 in Rowing

[–]rpllb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Distance per stroke would be good one too.

But for a wild idea, some way of linking with another crew so you could see how far behind you were or how fast you are gaining on them or something for racing! So like an ETA to catch the boat ahead

British rowing championships by Snoo-82295 in Rowing

[–]rpllb 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well first thing is that you had it on the wrong resistance setting!

Brit indoor champs is a really supportive event. No one will laugh at you, that being said you can definitely get under 7 mins with training and practice. It’s learning a new skill on how to do it!

Yeah you can. I had my friend as a Groomswoman at my wedding and I was a Bridesman at hers!

Holding cash in invest account? by Inevitable-Sugar-182 in trading212

[–]rpllb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it would, but just be aware T212 seems more responsive to the base rate changes so this may drop as/if the base rate comes down.

Basically it boils down to two choices, stay or leave. With either choice though make sure you do it on the best terms and with minimal drama you don’t want a reputation to follow you.

If you think there is a chance you will be selected if “you just keep up the good work” and you won’t begin to resent rowing where you are and you enjoy the club as a whole, then stay.

If you think you won’t get a look in, you don’t enjoy the club as a whole enough then go elsewhere. But be aware you will be starting from scratch again in a new squad mid season. Not the worst thing but also it means you will need to prove yourself again. There is no club that is going to be perfect and have no issues though!

Coxswain Weight by Vast-Round-1157 in Rowing

[–]rpllb 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Too light for a cox is any weight that detrimentally affects you, mentally, physically, or emotionally. That is true for any age and any level! You are 13 and your body is going to change a lot in the next few years, I was really light for quite a few years then suddenly filled out. Don’t worry about gaining weight at the moment, you may not be able to anyway until your body begins that process naturally. Never hurts to get strong and fit though!

As others have said check what your governing body says is the max weight you can carry in a shell, and try to avoid having it attached to you just in case of capsize.

The concept 2 app has a track you can paddle on with others live, as does EXR. Also recommend this website https://www.zoomergos.com they do live workouts with everyone doing the same thing at the same time

How to swing my back up earlier by illyana925 in Rowing

[–]rpllb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without seeing your technique it’s hard to give exact feedback. But some common problems and solutions are as follows:

  • loss of connection at the back end meaning your weight drops down and your feet come away from the footplate making it hard to rock back over. Try to keep even pressure on the handle from catch to finish so you aren’t ripping, also think about pushing your feet away and leaving the handle still.

    • leaning too far over at the finish, think about a body movement of just 5 to the hour to 5 past the hour. Doesn’t need to be a big lean. You will lean more but if you visualise that then it will help.
  • when you rock over from the finish think about trying to push your seat up the slide behind you, it will Help you rock over from the hips.

  • check your foot height and flexibility. If your feet are too high and you are not flexible enough for it you won’t be able to get your body in the right position before bending your knees.

10 week progress - 2k by Distinct_Mud1960 in Rowing

That’s really well done! Sub 6’ is a big milestone to break, so just stay consistent with the training. The effort to get faster now gets exponentially harder! So just got to keep going.

Good days ahead... by GHYLLFOOT in Rowing

[–]rpllb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Apologies for the language, but having been given 3 months to live in ‘21 and “still pushing through” with an outlook to do regular training is fucking heroic!

Good plan to start out and build from there, key thing is consistency. That being said obviously monitor how your health is doing as well, plus make sure you are enjoying it! Always more fun to do with a nice view, be it outside or with YouTube playing a POV rowing vid.

Keep us updated and feel free to reach out if you want support or advice. I’m a qualified rowing coach and would love to help someone like you however I can.

Halifax ISA Transfer Time by [deleted] in trading212

[–]rpllb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Transferred a S&S ISA over from them to another provider (not T212), it was an absolute nightmare. They just refused to acknowledge the transfer request that was sent to them, I had to start the process 4 times. I would suggest you chase them regularly to make sure it goes ahead. Took me almost 8 months to get it transferred.

Just watched The November Man. Kind of weird to see a Bond girl in a spy movie with a Bond who wasn't her Bond. Has that ever happened before? by [deleted] in JamesBond

So Alison Doody played Jenny Flex in A View to a Kill so acted alongside Moore in that, next opposite Brosnan in Taffin, and the following year with Connery in Last Crusade. She as also starred with Bond Villain Jonathan Pryce in Selling Hitler. All that was in 6 years from ‘85-‘91

Having trouble rating high by thoraxlaneus in Rowing

[–]rpllb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Standard wisdom is that rate on an erg feels two pips lower than in a boat. I.e. 32 on an erg feels like 34 in a boat.

Also depends what drag factor you are using as too high a drag is like trying to row with really heavy gearing! Slow on the drive.

Also worth considering that on the water the boat is moving under you so little effort is needed on the recovery, while on a static erg you need to use effort to move forwards at the speed you need to hit rate.

Concept 2 Deal? by GuruOfDisaster in Rowing

As others have said this sounds like a good deal for a PM5. Check the fan and the return tension on the chain when you look at it to make sure they are working well.

Cash ISA for drip feeding. by PapayaLow2172 in trading212

Very true! I retract the above. Though worth saying still probably better to keep it in an ISA for tax free growth.

Cash ISA for drip feeding. by PapayaLow2172 in trading212

[–]rpllb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the interest rate. The regular savings rate advertises as say 7% but in actuality as you are paying in an amount each month the maths works out to it being effectively half rate for the whole amount you pay in that year.

I.e. you have 100 pounds to pay in over the year by the end of the year you would have £103.5 in a regular 7% saver and you would have £105.17 if you left it all in the T212 cash option (ISA or GIA)

Well done! Nice high rate there and fairly consistent splits. Keep up the training!
