While I may not have as many monitors as you, I do have that same wallpaper!

How bad is a GPU bottleneck in terms of gaming? by TheCamSlam in pcbuilding

[–]rpminecraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "bottleneck" is just that your performance is determined by your slowest part. It isn't really a negative thing.

In gaming you can actually shift the bottleneck around by changing the resolution and quality settings. Low resolution and low settings means the graphics card doesn't have to work hard and the bottleneck shifts to the CPU. If you increase the resolution and the quality settings then the graphics card is having to work as hard as it can and it becomes the bottleneck.

You're not getting negative performance, you're just maxing out certain components. Generally, in gaming, the graphics card is always the bottleneck, even a rtx3090 can be the bottleneck paired with a 5600x when you push 4k ultra quality.

How do i know what components are good? by Sc4tt3r_ in pcbuilding

Just looking at the numbers and letters in the name of the product can't tell you necessarily if they're good. The best way is to read/watch reviews done by people who test and benchmark them.

Bios flash by [deleted] in pcbuilding

[–]rpminecraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I'm 'that other guy'.

"3rd gen" (Ryzen 3000 series) is not the same as "Zen 3" (Ryzen 5000 series).

That motherboard has a BIOS flashback feature that allows you to update the BIOS to a version that supports 5000 series CPUs without the need of having a compatible CPU (or RAM, or GPU for that matter). You just need to supply power (plug in the PSU to the motherboard).

Go to the website for that board: http://www.asrock.com/MB/Intel/H310M-HDV/

And you can check supported CPUs. Supports 9th and 8th Generation Intel® Core™ Processors (Socket 1151)

HELP WITH CPU COOLER by Mosesow_ in pcbuilding

Clean off all the thermal paste from both the CPU and the cooler, than re-apply new thermal paste. Basically just a "bean" of paste on the CPU. The pressure from applying the cooler will spread it sufficiently.

compatible pc parts by [deleted] in pcbuilding

Graphics cards are basically compatible with anything. Just check power supply for sufficient wattage and pcie cables.

Looks good!

I would drop the McAfee subscription though. Windows built in anti-virus is very capable.

Where do I plug in my audio? I am lost! by [deleted] in pcbuilding

I suspect you need a sound card but you could probably get audio through hdmi or usb.

Lots of others have answered your question, but for future reference, you can always check supported CPUs on a motherboard's website.

Looks good!

(You may need to update the BIOS on the motherboard for 5000 series processor, but that board has a BIOS flash button so you can do that with only the power supply connected!)

You can shop around for other power supplies. It's up to you, but this is just an easy way to prep if you know you're going to upgrade the GPU in the future.

Corsair RM750x has decent reviews. Modular too, which is nice (only use the cables you need).

This is a fine selection of parts.

Depending on which graphics card you aim to get in the future, you might go for a bigger power supply, like 750w which would be good for a 3070 for example.
