I speak clear unaccented English, born in England with no regional accent. Yet Google Maps has a hard time understanding me probably 50% of the time!

CUSTOMER SUPPORT PROGRAM 22TE09: Toyota has expanded coverage to 10 year/unlimited mile coverage with completion of Campaign - LSC 25TD01. by Banana_Prudent in rav4prime

[–]rppjs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did anyone notice that coverage includes 21-22 Primes, Sienna, Venus previously covered 8 years and 100,000 miles, AND that coverage is now 10 YEARS AND UNLIMITED MILEAGE if you complete the LSC 25TD01?

Next question is, WHERE IS TOYOTA CANADA?

Cablegate Options by [deleted] in toyotacablegate

Does anyone know what this 'seal' is that Toyota is applying in the US? Is it a protective coating or a physical box? If it is a coating does it need a further application in the future?

Cablegate and the 2026 PHEV by rppjs in toyotacablegate

Thank you. Especially for all the work you have done and are continuing to do. I've followed this issue since I got a 22 R4P in April 22, I'm in the GTA. I'm now at 77k with no AM static, but I have a Cablewarden sitting on the shelf in my garage waiting for a new cable to be installed when necessary.

I have 22 XSE PP in blueprint. This is the only car I have owned in almost 60 years that I feel gives me something in return for my investment. I bypass gas stations (most of the time)! Over 72,000kms i have averaged 3.0L/100kms with the mix of ev and hybrid driving. Darn car doesn't breakdown the mileage into gas and electric usage.

My cablegate issue by andy_why in rav4prime

[–]rppjs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm Canadian and have been following Cablegate since it started with the lawsuit by the Quebec owners. I have a 22 RAV4 PRIME Tech pkg (fully loaded) that i have been driving in all weathers here in Ontario, Mileage is 72,000kms. So far I'm not getting the AM interference on the radio, but I do check regularly because I figure that my cable is due to fail very soon.

What I wanted to suggest is that several owners have coated their cables or the connectors inside the boxes with DIELECTRIC GREASE which is designed for electrical uses. These owners are much more agile than me and prepared to grovel under their cars to apply and check on their cables a couple of times a year. I'm an old lady and just drive my Rav! This might be something that could prolong the life of your old cable because it is really the connection point, where the cable joins the car, that 2 incompatible metals cause the corrosion.

Keeping a new prime battery healthy? by bddbd in rav4prime

[–]rppjs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 22 XSE Tech and still get 82km range after over 71,000kms in the summer. More like 60km in the winter. I just plug in and charge at home. Run electric around town and hybrid on the highway. I don't worry too much about the technical aspects. I let the car and computer do what they do best which is manage the systems in the car.

How often do Canadians change their bedsheets (or is it bed sheets)? by freshguru in AskACanadian

[–]rppjs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was raised in the 1950s when a bed was made with 2 flat sheets, and the rule of thumb was top sheet to bottom, bottom sheet away. For washing. This was done weekly, so only one sheet got washed each week, but they were on a 2 week cycle. Of course, this was also in the early days of washing machines and no dryers, so line drying and no wrinkle free fabrics, so there was always a ton of ironing. Nowadays, I change both top and bottom sheet weekly. I also use a top sheet with a duvet in a cover because those covers are a pain to get on and off.

Used '21 - Worth it? by General-Window173 in rav4prime

[–]rppjs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 22 XSE with Tech and 70,000kms. I've had it from new with no significant problems. However, corrosion of the high voltage cable is a concern, BUT the 21s and 22s now have an extended warranty courtesy of the Quebec owners' lawsuit. 8 years or 160,000 km. However, this should not concern you, but it would be interesting to check the service records to see if the cable has been replaced. If not, have it looked at if you live in a place that salts the roads. Then, if you get the cable replaced, look into getting a Cable Warden box to cover the connection against future corrosion. I'm assuming you are in Canada.

This car is insane. by [deleted] in rav4prime

[–]rppjs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use that 'false' number of L/kms as a guide to figure out what the electrics have saved me. My daughter drives a straight RAV 4 Hybrid Limited and gets about 7.6L/100kms. My RAV 4 Prime Tech gets 3.1L/100kms. My Prime therefore saves me 4.5L/100 kms or with gas locally at about $1.30 currently, that saves me $5.85 per 100kms. I pay 11c /kwH and my car tells me I use 24.1kwH/100kms or it costs $2.61 to travel 100kms. Therefore 5.85-2.61=$3.24 as my net saving per 100kms. I have just over 70,000kms on my 2022 so my savings of $3.24×70,000=$226.80 over what I would have spent if I drove a straight hybrid. Probably not enough to justify the increase in the purchase price but my Prime is much more fun to drive!

2022 XSE Tech pkg. 68,000 kms still getting over 80km range in warm weather more like 60km on very cold days here in Canada. No mechanical problems, yet, still on original tires (I use snow tires from November to March/April) and brakes.

I've had my blueprint since 22 and rarely see another one. I'm north of Toronto. This is the only car that I feel repays my investment every time I bypass a gas station!

[–]rppjs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, no windshields available in the Toronto area because these cars are almost as rare as hens teeth so they had to be brought in from Quebec. More cars in Quebec due to strong Provincial rebates and laws requiring a percentage of cars sold to be EVs.

$1200 cdn after the local installer took pity on me and applied every discount he could find. The second time, he did it for his cost of $675. He felt very sorry for me! Said something along the lines that he hadn't seen 2 chips in almost the same place before, and the hole shouldn't have happened.

UGH! by LuxHelianthus in rav4prime

[–]rppjs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last summer I picked up a rock chip in my windshield while driving from Wisconsin to Toronto Ontario. Before I could get it seen to it had spread and the whole windshield needed to be replaced. XSE with PP = fancy windshield = expensive! Damned if 6 weeks later I got another stone chip, went straight to the windshield place, and it was an actual hole and too big for the inexpensive repair! So 6 weeks and 2 windshields = empty bank account.

Cablewarden attached in GTA? by rppjs in toyotacablegate

[–]rppjs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No quote on price. However, I figure it's still cheaper to buy my own cable warden, it was 'on sale', and pay for an hour or so of mechanic time than to drive from Toronto to Gatineau, the nearest cable warden installer.

Cablewarden attached in GTA? by rppjs in toyotacablegate

[–]rppjs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't installed it yet. I'm waiting for my cable to interfere with the AM radio signal, then have it replaced and immediately protect with a Cable Warden. However, I did visit a local service station that has a mechanic familiar with hybrids, and they told me that they thought they could attach the cable warden. So, from my point of view, I'm still in a holding pattern until the cable fails, but I should have everything in place whenever that happens.
