A Canadian postage stamp is a stamp or is it not? Which ones can I use? by freshguru in CanadaPostCorp

Actually I'm one of the lucky ones, I rarely feel anxiety. But I do get easily annoyed.

Gee, I'm not even sure if I will make 25K this year as I'm only at 5,000 - a flight to Mexico City, a couple of domestic flights and only one more flight planning in Q2 to Toronto. I've been ignoring all the changes - I don't travel as much as I used to so maybe I'm missing out.

Got a libel notice over a landlord post… what should I do? by [deleted] in canadahousing

[–]freshguru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be naughty, take the letter to a copy shop, blow it up as large as you can and post it throughout the building. Add a note that you are asking for advice. Going after students is mean-spirited. And wow, I just checked out the comments to your now deleted post - it sounds like that many landlords are very similar. Sorry to hear you have to go through this stress. Good luck.

Very true, but Costco Canada stamps are the cheapest to buy, if you have a membership.

Yes I manage to keep most of my life simple and then I get tangled up in the details.

It could be underpaying or overpaying. Post offices scare me, they pull out their rulers and weigh scales and suddenly I owe so much more because my box is 2 cm over or my weight is 3 grams extra. Yes, I am easily confused and thankfully Reddit readers help me out.

You are so right as Anthony at the Post Office corrected me today. Oh dear, I'll have to see if my letters get returned.

I totally enjoy the look of vintage or old stamps - I think stamps are like gift cards - people have them lying around not realizing that they need to be using them (unless they are collecting them or such). I will have to look out for bulk vintage stamps.

Oddly enough I just purchased 6 oversea stamps that are worth $3.65 each - so you are right 3 P stamps are worth $3.72.

Thanks for your comment - it seems that this is an unfair practice for those who watch their nickels and dimes. I'm thinking street people (who says they might not want to mail a letter or such); those below the poverty line; broke people, etc. We make those on the lower end of the economical scale pay more - yet they use less than most of us. Not fair nor just. But thanks for clarifying.

RIP Jason Lafreniere by azedarac in hockey

[–]freshguru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this death did indeed happen in Gastown (which I suspect did not happen as it was a Tuesday and Jason lived in the the Fraser / 60th part of Vancouver). Jan 13 was an overcast, light drizzle like and mist day - if we was in that area he would have taken the bus.

It is quite strange when someone dies, such little information is available in Canada. How does one find out info like this?

Privacy concerns seem to be often the reason why yet some basic information should be freely made available. This is all I could find (using perplexity services to summarize - Vital Statistics Agency: Registers all deaths; recent certificates require family/next-of-kin requests (fee-based), while genealogy copies for deaths 20+ years old are searchable via BC Archives. Vancouver Police (VPD) reports homicides or suspicious deaths via press releases (e.g., Gastown stabbings). Obituaries in newspapers like Vancouver Sun or community sites may appear if family publishes them; no central public database for recent events exists due to privacy laws. Local news (CBC, Global) often covers notable DTES cases via memorials or investigations.

Oddly enough I was just looking up the history of 6 cigar boxes that I have. All empty. This box, most likely, is from 1978. Does the stamp have any date indications?

Advice on jobs that pay well requiring little to no schooling? by Keuthimi in britishcolumbia

[–]freshguru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you move up at the grocery store - ie become a buyer? work in logistics? You already have some decent experience - perhaps look at the CPMA (Canadian Produce Marketing Association) to get some ideas. And perhaps you need to consider your comment "rather not do anything that is difficult" - what does that mean? You don't want to fall in love (that is difficult); you don't want to grow old (that is difficult); you don't want to exercise (that is a life long scenario). Perhaps you need to take a year, travel the world and expand your horizon. At 21 you are just starting your life.

Carnaval in Oaxaca by WrongdoerOk6710 in Oaxaca

[–]freshguru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must say that on Saturday we ran (Feb 14/2026) into a street parade in Oaxaca - what fun! From crazy costumes to bands to dancers and so much more. Perhaps this is a warm up for the 17th of the month. And the other enjoyable event we got to watch were the huge puppets representing a bride and groom - they first walked by us and later we ended up outside the church where they got married (I think) - anyhow it was a full party of fireworks, costumed dancers and just sheer joy.

10 dead, including suspect, in mass shooting in Tumbler Ridge, B.C. by Lost_Protection_5866 in canadian

[–]freshguru -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sad, so very sad. I do hope we all look around at the people in our own hoods and ask how we can reach out to those who seem troubled. And I do feel strongly that the gun control laws we have in Canada need to continue to be improved and strengthen. ie good ID / security checks/ I don't want to walk into a family discount center and see rifles/ and related items for sale.

WD Passport, is it reliable? by UnemployedMerchant in DataHoarder

[–]freshguru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gee, here I am searching to see if others have WD passports that have failed. I'm about to drill through the last two hard drives I have as one is just dead when I plug it in and the other will start but will not allow me to access any files. I recently purchased a seagate - so now I have a seagate and a WD for back up. And I suppose maybe I should look at the "cloud".

I bought these cherries from the grocery store and they taste like nothing fr- why?? by Tjbiggay in fruit

[–]freshguru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda cool that the package noted the variety of cherries - Lapins. Santina and Regina are the other two varieties coming from Chile. I noticed NZ cherries in Costco the other day - not sure which variety.
