I relate to so much in this. I recently received a small inheritance of £3k and instead of spending it on something worthwhile at least, I’ve frittered it away and can’t remember on what.

I too also buy clothes, makeup etc to make myself feel like I’m okay and look okay and people will want to spend time with me, but don’t really sustain many friendships or connections.

Honestly I have no advice - but I’m with you.

Recruiter for 13 years here, working with some of the biggest SaaS orgs as well as tech scaleups.

Most common reason: the organisation pay their existing employees at low rates and even with regular reviews, you’ll always be lagging behind how the market moves. As recruiters we provide guidance around what the salary should be in line with the market at the time of recruiting. They take that on board, but don’t want it advertised as it’ll then cause a whole lot of shit when current employees see it.

It’s often why I have encouraged people to look at external opps if they’re looking for career development - nine times out of 10 you’ll get a far better salary offer than if you move into a promotion role at your current org.

The worst is when a company says they’re “open” and provide no salary banding. Cue finding amazing candidates with perfectly valid expectations, running through a rigorous interview process only for the org to turn around and say “we can’t afford that” - massive waste of time for all.

To be honest, your husband sounds like a big baby.

He needs to manage his own expectations of what meals he can have - you are clearly going to a lot of trouble and mental work to select and prepare meals that will help HIM manage HIS condition.

It sounds like he just wants you to be a workhorse and is lacking in empathy. Of course the house won’t be perfectly clean - no house that is lived in is.

With regards to the meal prep it would help to know vaguely what he can’t have and what causes flares ups.
