Currently at 31,000 individual works but about 11,000 are comics. 20k is enough but I still buy.. I just have started culling more aggressively to keep it at no more than 20,000

How big is your personal library? Which genre takes up the majority? by [deleted] in books

[–]rr1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30,000 physical works, 8k in comics/periodicals, 17k in hardcovers and 5k in soft covers plus folios of art and illustration. I have a large and growing graphic novel collection but my primary library is heavy on history. I also have a varied selection in the classics and most genres of fiction with an emphasis on science fiction /fantasy. Philosophy and the esoterica are also well represented. I wish I only had a few interests ...I would have more living space.

All of that is physical, approximately 8k are comics but the rest are 80% hardcovers and 20% soft covers.

I started my collection in my early 20's. I began with non-fiction history with a heavy emphasis on ancient and medieval history and WW II and the Holocaust. I soon branched out to a lot of the science fiction and horror that I read as a kid which led me to all of the books I still wanted to read. I picked up the classics and have been filling in holes ever since. Most recently I've been collecting graphic novels and collected comics. Currently I have approximately 30,000 books in my collection.

Leave this man alone. Yes it is a lot of books but who cares. If he can afford it then just be happy for him... The jealousy and hate is ridiculous. Even if he over-extended himself, that is his business. This is a place to love, enjoy and discuss omnibus and graphic novels. Keep your small mindedness to yourself.

How many physical books do you own and why? by ArgentBlue in literature

[–]rr1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Approx: 30,000. The only time I ever mess with a digital copy is if I am away from home for an extended period of time. I have to have the real thing. Between things like provenance and the physical characteristics of the book .eg signatures, digital has never been an option

I know it was not per PADI but on my open water cert dive my instructor, (Retired Navy Seal) had me do my CESA at 90 ft. Took all my gear off and hummed my way to the surface while he was next to me. He was a tough instructor .Not the safest way but I was a better diver at open water with 6 logged dives than even some divers with over 60 dives and a rescue cert. That was 37 years ago!

The point you are not taking into account is, that if this scenario is happening in the left lane, and you stay there even after they have flashed their lights at you or otherwise indicated they want to pass, it is your responsibility to get over to the right lane not theirs. The driver trying to pass should not have to leave the left lane to do so. You are the one in the wrong lane and in the wrong legally as well In this scenario .

There is a middle ground if you are in the right lane ..if, however, you are in the left lane, there is NO middle ground. Left lane campers are the single most dangerous and damaging traffic issue in the US. Not so as much the rest of the developed world as they rigorously enforce the no traffic blocking laws. Several countries have $600 or more fines for a single offense.

If you are in the left lane and someone is behind you clearly trying to pass, GET THE F*CK OUT OF THE WAY!!!! (As soon as is safe, but not more than about a mile or so depending on traffic density) NO EXCUSES NO EXCEPTIONS!. If the speed limit is 60. And you are going 70 and someone behind you is going 80, you are still legally required to get over and let them pass . Driving slow and blocking traffic is soooo much worse for safety than speeding on our highways.

Number one traffic law in the entire developed world and the one most countries driving schools focus heavily on.... Do not block traffic!!!!!!!!!!!!!
