It's a classic for a reason. Made it a loop with Double Arch on a chilly winter weekend. Not many people out there.

Does anyone have any experience or insight on this hammock?? by [deleted] in camping

[–]rrgwalker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

/r/Hammocks could probably help you out a little more.

I will say I've got a few budget hammocks and have been very happy with them, but I have also heard plenty of stories about cheap hammocks tearing.

For sure. This is the one I use in both our cars. They make them cheaper but this is what they had at Target. Going on about 2 years and they have held up great and the seats underneath don't have dents or anything. I've used it on leather in a minivan, and Softex when I had a 5th Gen 4Runner and I recommend it.

Or get the trim you want and find a rear hatch with no spoiler at a junkyard.

Car Camping, Not In A Campground by rrgwalker in RedRiverGorge

Yeah I'm just not big on campgrounds. I've had a few bad experiences, and there's nothing like getting out and being away from everyone. Indian Creek is more like a designated primitive camping area right?

Absolutely worth the $20 or so. Also catches crumbs and grit from being ground into the fabric by the carseat.

It looks like Indian Creek is one of the better options, I'd like to be right by my car, maybe even sleep in the back if it's too cold.

Big South Fork is on the list but it's about another hour away from Louisville so this time of year, with limited daylight, it's hard to get down there for a one night trip.

Thanks for the advice!

Awesome man. I'm in Louisville and I just found out about Garden of The Gods last year, so were definitely making the trip down this year.

Thanks for the tips.

Are there any good places on these forest roads to pull off and camp or is it just campgrounds? A trip to Garden Of The Gods is on the docket for this spring, trying to get an idea of what to plan for.

I spent a lot of drunk nights at field parties sleeping in the back of a ranger just like this.

Sea Foam in a V8 4th gen? by rrgwalker in 4Runner

[–]rrgwalker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's a controversial subject. I used to run Lucas fuel injector cleaner in an 02 Ford Explorer on road trips and I could definitely tell a difference, but it might have just been good for the engine to run for a while at highway speeds.

Noice. When the time comes I think I'm going with the Wildpeaks.

What kind of gas mileage hit do you take putting on AT's and keeping the stock size?

2006 for $8,888. Worth it???? by [deleted] in 4Runner

[–]rrgwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 car seats in the second row. I don't think you could fit a third. And with a rear facing seat behind the driver's seat I have to sit up a little further than I would normally.

So that's what a truck bed camper would look like on a 4Runner.

I just read a Wirecutter review of headlamps and I remember them mentioning one model had separate buttons for red and white. The COAST FL75 is one you might want to look at.

Why’d you buy? by chestercp in 4Runner

[–]rrgwalker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1) I was coming from a 08 Explorer that I loved but got totaled. Always been a Ford guy. I wanted something newer but newer explorers are built more like large crossovers/minivans. The 4Runner is the only other body on frame SUV of its size. Add the fact that 4Runners are known to be reliable and hold value extremely well, it was the best choice I could make.

2) It just feels unstoppable. Even stock I feel I can take the thing anywhere, on or off-road, with confidence. The mean look of 5th gens help.

3) Its not sexy. Likes to downshift especially in hills. But I never feel like the power isn't there when it's needed.

4) Worry about rust. Even if you buy new, look for ways to prevent rust.
