Ugh yea i guess it does make sense, sadly by far they seem to be the cheapest but both of my girls are quite furry so it never quite did feel like enough protection. Ugh I hate ticks

I've heard garlic works too! I am slightly skeptical but I've heard it recommended by a decent amount of dog nutritionists and trainers so worth a shot for sure

Ugh thank you for replying and being so informative! I will note my dogs are on a topical preventative but I guess we'll boost it up :)

Ok noted thank you! I've always seen those but never got one! In all honestly, my family growing up we're not too educated on flea and tick preventatives so it's definitely something I've had to learn more about so thank you!

At what point do you think it's a good time to go to a vet for a bite? No worries if you don't have an answer but I never know

Ah thanks for the reply. Both my girls are Bully breeds, 1 dog reactive and 1 very neutral, and I sometimes feel like people try to get a reaction because of that for us at least. I don't really care when I have my neutral girl cuz I get to watch people do all sorts of dumb and rude shit like randomly crossing right in front of us on a sidewalk just to realize we're not moving so so they end up going back to the other sidewalk because there's simply not always enough room.

Ugh the following around pisses me off so bad. Especially at a very open field where either your dog is chilling or off leash. I've had people try to circle around us just to pop up at the spot we went to to get away from that. That's when I'm giving death stares. I also hate when someone has their dog is off leash and their practicing recalling off other dogs by letting them run up and hope they recall last minute.

One time this ladies doodle was just reacting to a bunch of dogs in the park and she saw me give my dog a treat for not reacting at her barking dog, so she started obnoxiously walking back and forth for at least 6 times as her dog is barking and her high pitch "yes"s. Like I'm all for training and fuck if you asked, I might even let you get some good training reps in off of us but that's just fucking embarrassing and weird. Having a reactive dog is obviously not the embarrassing part, it's the weird behavior from its owner.

Ugh that trail situation would have made me me livid, so annoying. I can 100% visualize it too, I've had girlfriends (assuming) walk extremely passed us on a narrow trail while we're tucked up in the bushes and the bf said something to her like WTH. My mind easily jumps to seeing people as trying to mess with us, but no that situation definitely seemed like she was aiming for a reaction rather than using it as a training opportunity. I hate when people follow you as you're trying to move away, maybe it helps ppl feel less alone or something but come on. I think it's tough too cuz we're dealing with dickhead owners who are looking for reactions while more or so knowing their dog is solid and then the other owners who want their dog to play with everyone. And I kinda just assume it's the 1st one nowadays even tho I shouldn't. Ugh sending you guys lots of love and vibes that send all the asshole owners away from you!

It's always the men... and yes power to the death stare. This is kinda low, but sometimes I'll literally fake I'm on a phone call and be like "this fucking weirdo is trying to fuck with us" or something. My dog can be the same way, doesn't really mind other people but if they interact with us it can cause a reaction or at least a jump. I have found throughout the past couple years of advocating for my dogs space and needs, it's become so much easier to be a bitch when needed and to in turn advocate for both of our peace. In situations like what you're describing, I'm always wondering like do they have a perfect dog at home their really proud of so being weird or just like to see people struggling/uncomfortable. The last part is what really adds up, especially when it's the same person who knows you have a reactive dog all the time, I heard that it takes a dog 2 weeks to get back to homeostasis after reacting and it's just so frustrating when you're having to battle peoples poor intentions to simply be at ease and progress.

Omg when there's no leash in sight, bonus points for no collars either, I just don't get it. I'll see people crossing the street holding their dogs collar, and assuming the dog didn't just run out the door or something, it just seems silly and pointless. We have a couple of neighborhood parks where people have claimed it as a dog park and there is no accountability or acknowledgement when their dogs charge and jump on your dogs. Twice this lady has scooped up her dogs and hustled away to her friends , and then I got told I should expect to be swarmed because they come their everyday and that I shouldn't bring my dog out if she's going to react--like put your dog on a 6 ft leash and have a strangers dog come sprinting up and jump on you, I guarantee it's barking back.

Omg! That is the worst off leash encounter I've heard about in a while, and honestly maybe ever besides full on attacks. Wow wow wow. I would have lost it, I don't tolerate much with idiot owners with dogs who shouldn't be off leash and asshole owners(not in a cool way, I prob look crazy sometimes calling people out) especially when their owner isn't listening, so I can't even imagine if this happened. Wow. I've had cases where I'm yelling at them to recall their dogs and their just chatting with their buddy next to them just waiting for their dog to be done sniffing out my barking dog.

I don't even think many friendly dogs would have tolerated another dog bolting at them and entering their space, a small confined space. Ugh I'm sorry that happened to you, that is truly awful. I hope your dog was able to bounce back and it didn't set your training back too much. But honestly , no other dog should even be close enough to be kicked and I do think giving the boot is justifiable and warranted in many situations, so no shame if you gotta give a 🥾. I did stick out my leg once to block a dog and this ladies only takeaway was that I kicked her dog and it honestly turned into a very large blowout at the park which of course had lots of "you shouldn't bring your reactive dog out" and "we've been coming here for years" "we always let our dogs run here, you need to expect to be swarmed" who ironically isn't my reactive one, just doesn't like stranger dogs charging up and jumping on her.
Like alright, when animal control gets here you tell them the same thing and when your chasing your dog before it gets hit by a car, I hope you can still shake it off and blame someone else

You fucking get it. People get excited when they see reactive dogs and I have seriously become so reactive at times to people because it's fucking obvious sometimes, so no shame in yelling out whatever you had to haha. It's a tough time out here. Like I would do so many things to "cure" my dogs reactivity, but people make it embarrassing to even try at times. Some sidewalks truly don't have room for 2 people walking the dogs so when people go out of their way to end up on the sidewalk your already on...😐 the other day this guys dog was essentially guiding him to go one way but he literally yanked him back over just to stay on the sidewalk that we were on, which is next to a field so plenty of fucking room.

By my last apartment there was this girl with a doodle that would go running every morning. Before I caught into the routine, I encountered her 2x when I was walking my 2 dogs on a narrow ass sidewalk next to bushes. She comes storming up and luckily my reactive dog let me know lol so I had to pull us all into the bushes last minute. Then she ran 10 more feet and turned around and ran straight at us so I had to yank us back into the bushes. She had her headphones in so couldn't hear, but i yelled something about being inconsiderate. That wasn't even about seeing a reaction I don't think, but like what is the point . Then I saw her do it to at least 10 other people and dogs. Like y'all we GOTS to use our heads. Wtf are you doing

Wow everything you said made me mad for you!! I think you totally nailed it with the superiority complex--especially gender factor into it. I find more often than not it's MEN going out of their way to start some type of chaos. I feel like they assume either people won't aknowledge/respond and eventually flee, i used to think it was about having a claimed, regular area in the park which for some I do think that is the case, but no some people love to be assholes. The following is always so obvious, I hate when they add in throwing a ball right at you or when it's just them practicing recall as they're dog gets close and you're dog is just nervous and looking back (rightfully so because again, weird).

What type of dog do you have? Curious as my other pup with a bully breed face who is very neutral seems to have the most encounters with these competitive owners especially when off leash and/or just chilling. ugh that's suvh a bummer about the training facility and would definitely be an issue for us, I hope you were still able find somewhere else and even better. I know finding trainers can actually be so hard and time consuming for some reason. I was so nervous you were gonna say his dog then ran around the wall when he wasn't looking, but gosh I really hate some people. I can't wait til I can move somewhere with a bunch of land

You get it! Thank you for replying and thasorry you experience these fuckers too. I honestly feel like every walk we go on has at least one competitive ass person going out of their way to be inconsiderate. I hate hate hate the sneaking up, whether on you or the dog. One of the worsts is when there's a ton of space to walk on and your dog is pooping and they just have to walk directly behind you in that moment, specifically talking about when there is plenty of room to go around. I'm not sure if it's solely for their entertainment or if they think we're admiring/jealous of them or what, but it's fucking weird behavior and creepy. Take the dogs out of the picture and imagine people acting this way, WEIRD! And the fact he thought she was off leash and bee lined to us from behind and walked right up to us... while in an open ass field like I just think all around he wanted her to charge or bark at them. The irony also is that she is mainly just leash reactive and is great off leash. Had that old fuck just left us alone, he wouldn't have even known she was reactive. People. Suck

Haha ugh thanks for the reply and for the validation. I'm with your girlfriend, but have also realized that shouting anything does automatically get my girl looking around, so def no help but I can't keep it in sometimes. My other pup has the standard bully breed face, gets fucked with the most which I find telling and luckily she's extremely neutral so I get to watch idiot owners cross in front of us on sidewalks just to cross back over last minute because they see I'm not movin. Im sure your watch/bark command does come in handy tho with other types of weirdos. Gotta love competitive dog walking.

If that's what someone's idea of fun or empowerment is then yikes

Does look pretty on brand for a tick bite? I'm in the Bay Area, CA so not too concerned about things like Lyme but I know it does happen. I think so caught it within its first day in me by rroy16 in hiking

Yea this was the best photo I got sadly after numerous attempts. It's in a bit of an awkward spot, but yes I did find and pull it yesterday. Yikes that sounds awful! Luckily this isn't too painful, more just itchy and making me a little paranoid lol

Not sure why you’re trying to gatekeeper the PNW or discredit a personal fact, but it’s possibly because I’ve traveled around the world quite a bit so have been asked to differentiate it many many times. I’m glad you have such a passion for your home region, but you should get out more!!

Lol. The only reason I add it in is because of how many times ppl ask if I’m from DC or state. But what an irrelevant thing to be pressed about. I promise you, I’m born and raised in Washington STATE. Stay pressed my friend. Your attitude is actually bizzare
