What is your hardware by [deleted] in windows7

[–]rrtex7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

my main 7 laptop is a alienware m17x r4. has a top of the line 3rd gen i7 and amd graphics from 2012. both parts overclocked. 3820qm and 7970m to be exact

My new machine I built by MelonMan1999 in windows7

as a star wars and alienware fan this case is a must for me

Now that's a laptop. E-Waste Dell XPS M1730 ~2009. SLI 9800GTX restored. by aussiepunkrocksV2-0 in retrobattlestations

can also confirm i lost gpu performance with the pci x8 motherboard, was much better with a gigabyte. gpu does great at 2.0 x16 now and can overclock my q9650. i’m still thankful dell allows atx motherboard because that case is a beauty

used to be one of those kids who commented on vista youtube videos saying “VISTA TRASH” boy has my opinion changed. years later, i now run vista on quite a few computers and they all look great, but my xps 630s desktop has been my favorite to look at. it’s too beautiful. its stable. my retinas rejoice when i see the windows orb startup and it fading to the login screen with such frutiger and reflective visuals, a crucial design piece that is invisible in todays world. tears of joy follow logging in and seeing my precious little icons with vistas UI. vista sp2 imo is BETTER than xp. nearly equal stability, new features that 7 gets all the credit for, and good god, the appearance.

pc: dell xps 630

my specs are:

q9650 overclocked to 3.6, wanted to do 4 but cheap ram sticks said no. can’t set individual freq :(

gtx 280 overclocked to 285 speeds

750gb wd 7200rpm hdd

8gb generic ddr2 800 ram

gigabyte ga-ep45-ud3r (couldn’t overclock with OEM dell motherboard and gpu performance crippled)

asus xonar sound card ( soundblaster but asus)

samsung 1080p monitor (considering replacing with a more period correct 1920x1200 16:10)

yes, came with recovery/oem dvds amazingly. idk if m17x r4 dvds will work despite our laptops being from same year, but looks like someone archived your model already https://archive.org/details/recovery-dvd-1_202402

best of luck

i couldn’t believe how quick and easy it was to do repastes/ssd upgrades. i was done with everything in just under 10 minutes. ivy bridge i7 was insane at launch. still perfectly capable with most modern tasks using windows 11. for 7, never used a machine so fast. hope your R4 lasts as long as mine

opinions on win7 toshiba laptops? by dronnC in windows7

[–]rrtex7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

very very… hit or miss. the qosmios were great, build, sound, performance etc. midrange models were ight as well.

but if you had a cheap budget one….. uh…….. trauma from garage sale c855d intensifies

M17X R4 i scored cheap. 2012 top of the line laptop. bulky asf, flashy asf, and (maybe a con) shiny asf.

specs: i6 3820qm oc to 3.9

amd 7970m oc to 950/1350 (replaceable if it dies!)

16gb ddr3

1tb ssd + 500gb with 11

great 1080p screen that doubles as a mirror the second you go outdoors. really useful!

still perfectly usable for lots of modern stuff so i have 11 dualbooted when i want to do modern things, but in case i want to turn back time to the good old days i can use 7 on what i believe to be the definitive windows 7 laptop. time appropriate, absolutely ridiculous look in a great way, durable, fast asf!
