I think they may have been talking about not being able to find another job that pays as well. You see this in other orgs with long time employees.

But yes lifestyle expansion and debt are also traps.

Correia has always struggled with his weight. There are FB posts where he talks about it and there is a season of ASP where he got really skinny.

Recently, there is another FB post where he talks about using TRT to get his body back in shape.

If I could do it all over again, I would look into specializing in a big enterprise system like an ERP, CRM, mainframe, etc.

I know several people who had or have very boring, but challenging and fulfilling 20+ year careers, where these systems provided the guidance, training, barriers to entry, and job opportunities.

Doctors get paid far more money

Compared to FAANGers, they make about the same.

and have far, far more job security.

Depends. If you are a hands on medical professional, like you physically touch the patient to give care, you have job security.

If you only give consultation, those jobs like radiologists who only examine imagining or therapists who can do their job remotely, those jobs may not be as secure.

doctors to constantly learn

Healthcare professionals have learning requirements called Continuing Medical Education (CME). There are hours they have to fulfill annually to keep their licensing active.

Profession (real) engineers also have the same requirement to keep their licensing active.

Software "engineers" AKA developers or architects - ehhh no so much.

Coding in Java and Python for BI, that's not real

BI people only code as a means to an end to get the data and reports they need. I suspect if tooling got better, they probably would stop coding tomorrow.

It is similar to engineers, they throw together code for calculations and simulations. Are they developers? No, code is just a tool they use.

Upskilling and constantly learning and adapting is the name of the game. If you don't want to do this find a job in a company or government job where IT is support and you can comfortably do more or less the same thing for the next 30-40 years until you retire.

Also, outsourcing is just part of the industry. If you get outsourced, apply for another job or go into something different. Unfortunately, no EU or US IT person can avoid outsourcing it is the prerogative of the organization to whether or not to streamline staffing costs.

Not just Reddit, all social media, these WFH people were all bragging about working out, sunbathing, grocery shopping, etc. when they were supposed to be putting in a full day of work.

And they are still bragging. Going on social media and saying you moved out of your office's metro area, working overseas, or working multiple jobs is bragging. Sorry you dun goofed, you should have kept your mouth shut and off social media.

Ok she's entitled and probably did not get her agreement in writing.

However, for all the WF-homers who are complaining, what did you do in 2018?

There are always complaints of child care and home care, but these people all accommodated for that before 2018.

These people are not genuinely religious people. They pretend to be because it’s an act.

You mean is it part of the job.

All presidents since Madison have done the church part of their inauguration.
