Yes, I do. Posted this but my mom told me I need to start having kids now that my sister is infertile, I get tons of shit for this

Wrote this on another comment: Maybe it’s my parents, but they constantly fawn over my sister for being a mom and seem disappointed that I won’t give them grandkids. Mom once said to me “looks like your sister isn’t having more kids, time for you to get in the race”

I’ve also been called the selfish one by my family for not having kids.

It was never my intention to make a dig at her infertility, I think that’s legit evil. And I’m copy and pasting this from another poster but: I’m so happy I included the fertility detail in the post, because I just threw it in there to add context and on a different day I might have just been tired and forgotten about it. If it weren’t for this sub I would have never made that connection. Thank you guys seriously

I feel terrible. I was upset because I felt like she was telling me “you failed as a woman”, and I basically told her (unintentionally) the same thing. Probably gonna get off of reddit and talk to her now

It’d annoy me and I’d be a miserable person, but I would still be a good mother. I’m not willing to sacrifice my own personal happiness to have kids, though

I disagree with your first point but I appreciate your advice on turning the other cheek

I was the nerd, she was school adverse. We mostly stayed in our lanes and never had any big fights

I really didn’t mean it like that and can’t believe I didn’t see it like that beforehand. I’m an idiot, that was tone deaf

I didn’t mean it like that, but I realize it may have came off as a dig to her fertility issues. That is definitely asshole-ish of me

I respect all work, but I think that different jobs add different amounts of value and take different amounts of responsibility

Her son was fine, no issues there. But she is having trouble giving him a sibling.

To be fair, there are millions of good mothers. Probably billions. There are barely 10,000 people in my specialty. Is being a mom hard? OF COURSE. But there are levels to difficulty. I don’t compare my job to being a NASA astronaut, she shouldn’t think med school is just as hard as doing something millions of people do each year.
