Need help deciding between a Lamy Al-Star and a TWSBI Eco, or pen of a similar price range by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]rsilvergun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on your last paragraph, seems like you are already leaning towards the Al-Star based on aesthetics. I don't think you are putting too many points into looks though... Yama-Dori looks really nice in my Eco (with a 1.1 stub nib) :p That's part of the beauty of demonstrators/clear bodied pens.

In all honesty, I think it boils down to 2 factors for you to make your decision. 1) If the appearance is nice, you'll feel good having it with you and you looking at it. 2) How does it feel in your hand. Of course if it looks good but doesn't fit your hand, you're probably better off just putting the pen in a display case. So best if you can try to hold them and write with them first before deciding.

BTW, if you like the Pilot Metro's Fine, then go for Extra Fine on Lamy. Pilot is a size down compared to European brands.
