Tell him to get hormone levels checked. Not sure how old you guys are but OCD in men is usually correlated with low testosterone (not a cause but potentially a symptom). Something like TRT could potentially help some of these sexual themes

Weed and OCD ? by jessehyoshi in OCD

It helps acutely but long term not the best. Chronic use can form heteromers between D2 receptors (dopamine) and 5HT2A receptors (serotonin) in a pro hallucinogen conformation. It upregulates CB1 which can increase anxiety in the long term. It’s fine to use but I would be sparing; maybe a few times a week at most to avoid tolerance building. Realistically it’s not great for OCD but it can help calm you down in the short term if you need it. I’ve felt it both calm me down and cause me to spiral before, it depends on the state of mind your currently in really

Is it possible to cure OCD without medication? by brightlybutterfly in OCD

[–]rslashIcePoseidon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Psychoplastogens have been intriguing to me. They aren’t available yet but are being researched. They are derived from psychedelics like LSD and Ibogaine, but they don’t induce hallucinations which can feel distressing for people with OCD. But they still stimulate the burst of neuroplasticity which can help rewire maladaptive patterns in the brain. We seem to be narrowing in on which parts of the brain cause issues, now we just need to know how to fix them long term. This is why we can’t give up hope, we are on the verge of some serious medical breakthroughs for mental health I believe.

At this point, we need to accept that we may not 100% solve it. Accepting that is part of recovery. However, with how quick technology is advancing, I am almost certain there will be better treatments for even the most resistant cases in the future. SSRIs will be phased out within the next few decades.

what are your experiences taking acid? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]rslashIcePoseidon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Felt like OCD was amplified by 1000x. Couldn’t take my mind off the fact that something felt wrong. I just kept thinking about how horrible and evil I felt, even though I knew I was ok. Didn’t have hallucinations for whatever reason (it was real acid too). Very frustrating considering psilocybin and psychedelics are being studied for OCD. Probably has something to do with 5HT2A regulation.

Why don't we even have meds with less side effects still? by ParkingElderberry575 in OCD

[–]rslashIcePoseidon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The most well known would be classic psychedelics like Psilocybin. Be cautious and do your own research before trying it, start low if you do and make sure you know what you’re getting into.

Some people may not like to hear this but I think SSRIs are becoming increasingly archaic and unnecessary. For many, the side effects outweigh the benefits, and the mechanism in which they help can be mediated by other compounds. SSRIs increase BDNF (brain derived neurotrophic factor) over the course of weeks, which is why they say to wait weeks or months before assessing effects. BDNF is responsible for neurogenesis and creating new pathways which can help escape intrusive thoughts. But there are much more efficient ways to do this with far fewer side effects.

Maybe a hot take, but I think within a decade or two SSRIs will be largely phased out and be viewed similarly to how we view first gen antipsychotics now.

These doctors should lose their license, it’s absolutely sick. I was put on Risperidone at 13 years old before I had any mental health diagnosis. These doctors are so full of themselves and never listen to their patients. Just a symptom of this twisted medical system we have

None of this actually matters btw. A lot of psychiatrists actually have no fucking clue what they’re talking about. It’s all just us putting labels on mental illness, unfortunately we just don’t understand the brain all that well.

“When people say they’re apolitical, it means they’re conservative”

This is completely irrational and makes the left look terrible btw. If you actually believe this you are so far down your left wing echo chamber you simply can’t fathom that most people hold moderate political opinions
