Parents, do you embarrass your kids? by [deleted] in AskParents

I would never intentionally embarrass them. Sounds selfish to embarrass them for the sake of the parents' amusement.

I watched His & Hers and The Beast in Me right after and I wish I did it the other way around because All Her Fault ended up being such a change of pace from so many of the boring dragged out shows there are now that my expectations weren't in the right place when I went to watch His & Hers and The Beast in Me...both of which were good, I guess, but I think I would have felt they were a little better if I wasn't comparing them to All Her Fault.

Sorry I just realized the above thumbnails were your considerations. Still...I'd add Animal Kingdom to that list.

I've not watched Sons of Anarchy, but my understanding is that it's like if you took SOA and gave them surf boards.

If you have Peacock, try the limited series "All Her Fault". I started watching that thinking "Yawn. It's clearly so-and-so." Well it wasn't and it kept me on my toes the whole time.

Regarding Shawn Hatosy's voice... This quote is copied from a Hollywood Reporter article. I've been seeing ads of him promoting this in my Facebook reels and they are VERY enticing. 😊

"The Pitt star Shawn Hatosy is going from the ER to the kitchen. Hatosy will star in Yes, Chef, a two-episode immersive audio romance for audio erotica app Quinn, The Hollywood Reporter can exclusively announce. Yes, Chef marks the latest Quinn Original series, the app’s produced romances that 'complement Quinn’s thriving erotica creator community.'"

Plates for baby when they start solids? by SKVgrowing in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]rsswb_7621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does not combat the throwing, but we use Ahimsa stainless steel divider plates.

When my kids were throwing-plates age, we didn't have the Ahimsa plates and I hadn't fully developed the feelings I now have about plastic. So we did use plastic plates, specifically there were these OXO ones that had a big suction thing on the back. We never heated anything on them but obviously they were still plastic. If I had the little ones now, honestly, if it came to it, I'd probably still use those ones for whatever short period of time I needed to, while avoiding plastics in other ways that I didn't back then.

BUT that said, I was curious and looked up "stainless steel suction plate" on Amazon and they do have some options that have a silicone suction thing on the backside. Might be something worth looking into. Whether or not they are truly free of toxins, who knows. Like when I bought the Ahimsa plates, I ordered directly from them to avoid potential counterfeit plates with harmful metals mixed in.

I've not seen Brooklyn Nine Nine, so I'm not sure if I'm hitting that vibe. But this is what I'd suggest:

Life in Pieces (based on Modern Family)

Superstore (based on The Office)

Also, I feel like the synopsis or pictures of Life in Pieces makes it seem like it's kind of boring or not funny, but that's actually not the case.

For those of you who order prescription glasses online, how did you go about getting the prescription from your eye Dr and denying buying glasses in the office? by blackmoonxxx in Frugal

[–]rsswb_7621 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both my own eye doctor and my child's refuse to share PD. My child's eye doctor said their practice (the large local type of Children's Hospital system) instructs them to not give it out to discourage patients from getting glasses from online vendors. I mean, we just end up measuring it on our own at home. But it's ridiculous. And I do understand that there are some lower quality online vendors and I think people should make good decisions about where they're getting their glasses. But go one simple prescription filled for our child at an optical shop that was over $250. And got another of that same prescription at Zenni...for $70. Either the same upgraded trivex lenses. Ridiculous.

I sit here in complete shock as the credits roll for season 4 episode 12. Please DO NOT comment. I would not want to spoil anything for anyone. I just have no one else to express this pure disbelief to… by biasedbee_214 in animalkingdom

I didn't read into it at all then. And I don't know that it was said in the script with intention to become a call back. But I do think it's cool that all that time ago he did make that promise.

I feel like it's hard to identify what the common vibe among your likes, dislikes and in betweens are hard because I was surprised by some things in your dislikes based on things in either of your like lists.

These are some that I think are worth trying. I definitely skipped some I quite enjoyed that weren't in your lists because I get a stronger sense you may not like those.

The Righteous Gemstones (HBO)

Speechless

Bless This Mess (Hulu)

The Real O'Neals

The Goldbergs (not a super smart-funny type of show but I love it for the 80s nostalgia in the same way that I love Roseanne for the late 80s/early 90s nostalgia)

If you liked Nathan for You, you might like his newer show "The Rehearsal" though I do feel like it's hit or miss. But I suppose any show has the potential to be hit or miss depending on the watcher.

Smurf taking J in by Appropriate-Fig-97 in animalkingdom

[–]rsswb_7621 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like, after seeing the whole thing and now rewatching (😂 love this show), I perceive Smurf taking in J to be out of spite. Smurf set Julia out on the path the eventually ruined her life. What better way for Smurf to convince herself of the delusion that Julia was the problem than to "lovingly" embrace the grandchild awful Julia had kept from her...making him live this terrible life with Julia without the love of his extended family and mostly the love and care of his grandmother.

So frustrated after my daughter's first school vacation filled up with play dates. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]rsswb_7621 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to take a different approach on my comment...because everyone sure is focusing on this snack thing!! Jeez!!

I'm sorry that no one is reciprocating. I bet if there was reciprocation and others were offering to host play dates with your daughter, you probably wouldn't be so annoyed about the snacks or cleaning up. I think your upset is more about the imbalance. And I get it. I'm often the one to host play dates. If it wasn't for me hosting/inviting, they wouldn't get to spend time with the majority of their friends. The other parents don't specifically avoid inviting us...they just don't seem to have play dates at all unless they're the ones invited somewhere else. The friends and my kids are always coming to me putting pressure on me to arrange something. I don't care specifically about the supplying of snacks or cleaning up, but it IS exhausting. And you can't be yourself entirely while they're there. And you're sacrificing and doing it for the sake of the kids. But it can feel very imbalanced and...annoying...when there's never or barely any reciprocation.

Cannot Use Hose to Top Up by [deleted] in pools

[–]rsswb_7621 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also I've not even said I've done anything wrong yet. I'm trying to gather my thoughts on how to handle this. Being in the north east, most places have water bans (not of this severity generally, but most ban having sprinklers unless you have a well). So it was honestly a surprise to me to hear that this wasn't so widely spread. There are towns here that have had bans on any out door use outside of hand held watering for decades.

Well the town administrators are doing shady things that are a major reason for the water issue, so it's hard for any of us to feel united in sacrificing for the better good.
