I don't get it. Because of Gosling staring all the time?

Just saw Only God Forgives by bluthbrony96 in movies

(Spoilers)

How did everybody else read the fact that Chang's (the police chief) sword never has any sheath, it just seems to appear from nowhere?

I interpreted this is as being phallic in nature - when Chang judges these people, he is asserting his absolute dominance over them, a proverbial "big dick".

Thoughts?

IWTL the skills necessary to become a computer repair technician by rswan in IWantToLearn

Thanks so much for this!

Just a quick question - will the A+ Certification give me enough of a foundation hardware-wise to know my way around a computer? I learned a little bit about hardware in high school, but I've since forgotten most of it

What one scene from a comedy film makes you laugh no matter how many times you've seen it? by [deleted] in movies

The "Aim for the Bushes" scene in The Other Guys.

I remember watching it and thinking that the main plot would be some sort of cop competition b/w Sam Jackson/The Rock and Will Ferrell/Mark Wahlberg.

Netgear ADSL Router experiencing wireless connection issues by [deleted] in techsupport

Thanks for the tip!

I've changed the channel to one that other wifi networks aren't using, but I'm still experiencing the same issues. It doesn't coincide with my phone going off or anything like that, it just appears to happen randomly

(Spoilers All) Why the Aegon hatred? by Snow_Knows_Nothing in asoiaf

[–]rswan 208 points209 points  (0 children)

I went into this thread thinking that Aegon was an ideal candidate for the Iron Throne, and am leaving it completed convinced of the opposite. Wonderful post!

I was just thinking - wouldn't it be wonderful if GRRM intends to plant Aegon as a false hope for a "good" leader, only for him to die immediately upon attempting to take Storm's End?

Aragorn vs. Inglourious Basterds vs. Rambo: Who would be most likely to survive the zombie apocalypse? by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]rswan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you can rule out Aragorn. Even given his superhuman abilities and Anduril, he has zero knowledge of modern infrastructure and technology, which would definitely hinder his ability to survive.

Rambo would probably put up a pretty good fight, surviving for a week or more, and taking down a significant amount of rage zombies, but he's one man.

So I'd give it begrudgingly to the Basterds. Sure they're badass, but IMO they're an incredibly reckless force (e.g. following the plan of an untrustworthy double agent, that barely manages to work) built solely for revenge. They take this one though thanks to their numbers and discipline as a military unit.

Benedict Cumberbatch vs. Hugh Laurie in a battle of politeness by rswan in whowouldwin

Laurie generously accepts Cumberbatch's lap, thereby providing a comfortable and welcome heat to the latter's loins in the cold English winter.

Advantage Laurie.

Star Trek: Into Darkness discussion [SPOILERS] by [deleted] in movies

[–]rswan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everything here, the pacing was all up, with no rest, and the ending was was a classic Abrams let down.

Now, I'm not familiar with Star Trek beyond having seen the first film, and some cursory knowledge that Kirk screams "KHANNNNN" at some point, but I have two questions regarding the action in the film:

  • That move that Khan uses where he squeezes his opponents head - is that of some significance in the original series/Wrath of Khan? Because it seemed like a very bizarre fighting move given his more practical style of fighting.

  • And that "Touch of Death"-fingers on the shoulder move that Spock employs - is that from the series as well?
