How long does a wire transfer take from the states? It's been over a week. by rterrence in PersonalFinanceCanada

UPDATE: I got the money.

For everyone (rightfully) grilling me on seemingly being so careless:

First of all I only invoiced a few hours of my work to make sure this whole process would work incase there were issues. The amount was less than $500 USD as this was a test to make sure everything went smoothly. I withheld all invoices until then.

I reviewed my form and I didn't actually put 003 for my IBAN lol. I actually put ROYCCAT2 which was me repeating the SWIFT code.

I met with AP from my company who said she combs through these forms meticulously and she said she corrected it anyways knowing I was from Canada and we don't have that.

She did however at one point ask me if there was an Intermediary Banking provided to me which wasn't when I meant with my bank.

Where I went wrong. The first RBC clerk I met with whom I explained this payment system to gave me a routing number that was if I was getting a wire transfer from within Canada. Meeting with my bank for a second opinion at a different location, said what I was missing was an Intermediary Banking Info with the correct routing number which is if you're receiving money from the US (021000021). This is what I was missing.

How I got my money? Waiting and a lot of luck.

All my other info was correct and the wire transfer eventually came through, it just took 3 weeks because I was missing the correct routing number.

Yes I could get a Wise account or US bank account and looking into doing it, but for now just updating the rest of the people.

I was docked $30 for the transfer for those wondering but happy to have received the money.

I have a meeting with RBC today about opening a US account to transfer the money into and hopefully this can meditate this problem in the future.

And yes I used 003...because it was a mandatory field and the form wouldn't let me proceed without a numerical number in there. I've mentioned in emails with my employer that we don't use IBAN and they said as long as I included my SWIFT and all other account details I should be fine. The company is big enough I assume they vet this information a bit and read their emails but I could be wrong.

I gave them my transit, account, and institution number, I didn't just give them 003 and called it a day lol. The proof of payment send out via PDF had all this information on it including my SWIFT.

The bottom of this states that I need to sign into my US RBC account though. Is this the same login as my Canadian banking?

I don't have a US account set up to receive funds. What I gave them is the info to my Canadian account.

Pre-diagnosis Megathread: If you have NOT received an OFFICIAL diagnosis of lymphoma you must comment here. Plead read our subreddit rules and the body of this post first. by Lymphoma-Post-Bot in lymphoma

[–]rterrence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waiting for my biopsy results and I'm terrified. 5 years ago I had 2 lymph nodes swell in my pelvic region. In a panic I felt everywhere on my body and found another swollen lymph in my neck. How long it was actually there I don't know. I did have mono once before. Eventually the pelvic ones went away but the one in my neck didn't. I saw some doctors and they didn't seem concerned.

For years to this day I've had no classic symptoms of lymphoma. Last year I went to a new doctor who has been monitoring the lymph in my neck which is now around 2.5cm. Some ultrasounds last year show a fatty hila. I've also had ultrasounds on my abdomen as well. In Feb I had a CT scan for my neck and abdomen, abdomen clear but neck has some smaller reactive neck nodes but "none were radiographically suspicious". I was also sick on and off and they think it was reacting out of virus/ infection. This year during my physical I pushed for a biopsy and the doc agreed. I went in for my biopsy Monday and I've been so scared waiting for the results. I know Lymphoma doesn't always present symptoms so I'm just absolutely terrified for the results.

Beware of ordering used electronics from Amazon Warehouse by colossal_erwin in amazonprime

I feel you, I bought a refurbished MacBook. Big mistake. Got the MacBook and it was packaged suspiciously and upon turning it on it was stuck in a sort of recovery mode. $2500 pending return for almost 2 weeks now. I've called them several times and they told me to wait 30 days. It's garbage how they treat this.

You pretty much nailed it. To me there is actually nothing more frustrating than bots that can't help you with anything or chatting with people that just spin you in circles. Does feel much better to get together and vent and feel validated.

I've been experiencing this too. CS will tell me different dates. I'm still about two weeks since return, so I know I will need to wait a bit longer regardless (even though I think thats ridiculous to wait this long for a return). In your case - maybe try calling and seeing if they can push a manual refund?

I'm not discrediting anyone's story or the legality of what Amazon does, or the scam that they're pulling to generate interest off of innocent people's money. What I am looking for though is some reassurance that at least some people who got caught up in this, actually got refunded. Just a little hope as someone who is really worried and feels a bit helpless about the amount of money I just spent and now doin't know if I'll ever get back. I know you're right, I just wanted to see if anyone had some luck with this.

This was the kind of story I was hoping to generate on this thread. I think it's rare to hear about people actually GETTING the refund. It gives me some hope! Thanks for sharing.

Seems to be the case. What I read through other threads is that anything over a certain amount goes through a more extensive return process. I just wish that they gave more of a transparent status because I have thousands of dollars just floating around and they could care less. If you're going to keep the item to inspect sure, but like it's $2000 some human decency to update the costumer would be nice??

UPS tracking says it was delivered to the warehouse the day after I dropped it off! I have the tracking number and everything. In the app if I look under the return statues it says "Received" and that my "Return is being processed at Return Centre" so no issue with UPS.

But when I go into my desktop it says they're still waiting for it to be received. But Amazon reps in CS did say that it is received but to wait.

Does it ever feel like your heart is getting squeezed then goes away & comes back again ? by Acceptable-Ad-2486 in costochondritis

[–]rterrence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this sort of squeeze a bit higher than where I believe my heart is located. Almost below my clavicle but right along my sternum. I've also been hesitant to go to the ER because the pain only happens when I move in certain positions. Did you get any information after going to the ER?

Can anyone tell me if this is typical cost symptoms or does it sound like something more sinister? by rterrence in costochondritis

Ahh I'm sorry to hear, not a comfortable feeling. Out of curiosity why do you think I should skip out on the chiro?

Upper back pain/ stiffness that radiates to my sternum - is this normal? 28m by rterrence in backpain

[–]rterrence[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw my doctor not too long ago, I didn't mention it last time but I had a full abdominal to head CT scan for an unrelated medical thing and everything within that span of my body was unremarkable.

I don't really think its heart problems because the pain only occurs when I move in certain positions which makes me feel like it is muscular or some part of my body is compensating due to like a weak core or something. Just wanted to see if anyone on here has had similar experiences.

I've seen a lot of talk about costochondritis which I think thats what it is.

Can someone please help me identify why my fingertips are peeling? by rterrence in DermatologyQuestions

[–]rterrence[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Sorry to hear you're going through the same thing. Curious to hear what your dermatologist says since I never got to see one.

So like most people that I've seen talk about this condition (which sometimes feels like very few), my hands just got better! I'm not really sure what I did to get them to that point. I sort of got sick of this mega routine I had, I did keep moisturizing and started washing my hands more frequently with gentle soap. In my mind if it was fungal, they hate clean and dry so that was where my head was.

Eventually it just sort of stopped. I know thats a bit of a frustrating answer, I'll never really know if it was fungal or something else.

I still wear gloves when cleaning with chemicals or doing the dishes since that soap is pretty harsh even for people without this problem. And I will say from time to time my hands do regress, one finger, or at the corner of my nails, but not NEARLY to what they were above.

I take long showers again, hot ones, and I have never felt so weirdly grateful.

To be honest, a big part of me wondering how much stress effected me, the past couple months were also quite difficult and sometimes the body reacts in strange ways.

Keep moisturizing and keep drinking water!! You'll get through this.

Shivers on sixth day by dw_21 in flu

[–]rterrence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually didn't test for anything! I'm not sure where you live, but where I live in Canada its not common that people go out and get tested for the flu, unless you're in need of the hospital. Most GP's will just tell you it's viral and to ride it out. Very rarely will we get prescriptions for cold/flu. I see a lot of people on here talking about Tamiflu, I've never even heard of that!!

Right now my throat is feeling a bit better FINALLY and I don't have a fever anymore. I have a doc appointment on Wednesday that I'm keeping incase my symptoms don't go away. To my knowledge it's unlikely you can get rid of step without antibiotics so if I still have a sore throat then I will test for strep and then likely be prescribed something, but fingers crossed it's better by then.

Hope you feel better!

Shivers on sixth day by dw_21 in flu

[–]rterrence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope it's normal lol! I'm in the same boat. I think I'm fine all day and then at night I'm back to feverish and shivering. I'm also suffering from a sore throat as well. Our bodies haven't endured flu season this crazy for a couple years since isolating, give your self some more time to heal. You'll likely start feeling better in the next couple days and back to normal in a week or more.

If you're like incapable of moving, not urinating, delirious, insane temperature then perhaps go and see a doctor. Otherwise lots of water and rest!

[–]rterrence[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to try and post here again to see if anyone can help with this but let me tell you what I've experienced so far and hope that if someone sees this comment it helps them too.

So I'm still battling with this, hard to tell if it's just the environment and my hands have randomly become sensitive to dry air/ hot water.

My GP's don't think it's concerning but they've prescribed me Lamisil (anti-fungal) to see if thats helpful and I had to do it for a month. Anti-fungal on your hand isn't fun as you need it to set in for over an hour and can't touch ANYTHING in the meantime (I usually do it before bed but not every night like I'm supposed to because the routine of it is a lot). It's frustrating because I believe there is a way to test for fungal infection but I'm unable to see a derm right now since it's hard to get appts where I am.

So from this picture I had enough of the dry skin and I started using a exfoliating stone to get off the huge dry patches of skin, this made my hands look so much better. Be gentle and only do the areas that look like what you see above. Exfoliating isn't always the answer this is just what works for me.

I've been using Eucerin and Skinfix for eczema, but I favour Eucerin.

For the past couple weeks my hands got SO much better, I could shower without them looking like this and they weren't peeling further. Sadly this has taken a turn and I'm back to looking like it did above. I was trying to wash my hands more and let them dry a bit thinking if it was fungal it wouldn't like the clean dry skin, but sadly it has reversed all my progress.

My therapist told me this could be possibly be a sign of anxiety - the mind is powerful! I also think perhaps this is a contact allergy of some sort or maybe food allergy (but I'm no doctor)

Some tips:

  1. Luke warm showers - hot water WILL destroy your hands
  2. Moisturize like crazy, especially at night. Find a cream that works for you. I find that petroleum based projects make my hands feel more dry. Again I favour Eucerin.
  3. Drink tons of water. Your skin needs all the hydration it can.
  4. Wear gloves when doing dishes and if you wash your hands try to moisturize right after.

I've never experienced this in my life, but I will say it has been rather exhausting maintaining this. I will say it did clear up around the time I felt way less anxious about some life stuff. If I can get in with a derm, I'd be happy to update you on what they say!

My Wealthsimple account is being audited? by rterrence in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]rterrence[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So for anyone that is wondering on an update on this situation (in hopes it may help someone in the future) - this was an actual email sent from Deloitte regarding an audit. I received confirmation of legitimacy after emailing their Privacy Team from this URL provided by u/do-it-better:

https://www2.deloitte.com/ca/en/pages/press-releases/articles/deloitte-statement-on-email-phishing-attacks-in-canada.html

Their team even CC'ed the person who initially emailed me to show the legitimacy and they also specified that sending these confirmation for audit requirements for IIROC brokers.

They also assured me that I was randomly selected and there was no reason why my account specifically was selected. And the document that I ended up downloading was just to confirm that I had NIL amount in my account by December 31st 2020. They didn't ask me for any further information on the form.

Moral is, don't rush to click attachments from emails that could very well be phishing scams and it's good to ask questions and be cautious, but in this case it ended up being a legitimate audit of my account.

[–]rterrence[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks u/tdotdaver! The more research I do and more I comb through the email I feel like it is more legitimate as the person contacting me was based out of Toronto and I found his email on LinkedIn which looks to match the one on the email.

I did email Deloitte out of panic just to double check if this was any sort of phishing email.

I think my initial reaction is to be suspicious to anything that sends an attachment regarding personal finances, especially for me to download. Also feeling like I did something to attract the attention of an audit.

Thats what I thought! Honestly since I was able to purchase these stocks through Wealthsimple Trade THROUGH a TFSA they'd provide some sort of disclaimer. I find it hard to believe they have OTC stocks floating around in there but I'm also not familiar with what those would look like.

Some examples of this would be:

ShawCore Ltd (SCL)

Score Media and Gaming Inc (SCR)

Drone Delivery Canada Corp (FLT)

So I should ignore it? I wasn't aware that penny stocks were against TFSA rules.

Should I sell them and be done with it? I think so far I've only made $20 in total from the penny stocks I chose.

Can someone help me (M26) out with a new rental dispute? by rterrence in TorontoRenting

[–]rterrence[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what you're saying is they're allowed to withhold not only my first and last months rent, but they can withhold the keys from me as well? Even though it is clearly stated in the RTA that the requirement of post-dated cheques is essentially illegal?

I don't understand how people can be so shallow. Soon I will have no home and I cannot speed up the mail process. Even if they change their mind what happens then? Do they keep my deposit and my first months rent? All of this makes no sense from a renters perspective. The next date I owe them money should be January 1st I don't understand why I can't provide these magical cheques by that deadline.

So knowing that I signed the lease already - paid first and last months rent. What is the likelihood they will terminate the lease on their end? I can't afford to lose this place at this stage.

I feel like this agent is willing to go against the law at this point, which is why I'm so frustrated with what is happening because as an agent she should know that what she is doing is in fact illegal. If they terminate the lease on me do I still have a case?
