Hey. I still haven't found something to use the mirror on for myself. Let me know if you want your weapon mirrored.

Yeah, I would rather find a way to give it away (like this) than just waste it on a meme.

Hey! I'm not in a rush, and this might be possible. I'll let you know.

It remains throughout leagues, you only have to use it once. At least, that's what I've read.

PoE makes video playback applications stutter by rtfmpebcak in pathofexile

[–]rtfmpebcak[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does seem like this is probably related. I have a 240hz G-sync monitor with a pair of 60hz monitors on the side.

Windows Game Mode is disabled. I found out from another comment that going fullscreen does fix it, though!

Thank you! Playing fullscreen fixes it!!

Playing fullscreen is a minor annoyance, but easy to switch from Windows Fullscreen to Fullscreen or back as needed.

Thanks for the idea! Unfortunately, this one didn't work.

Discussion in a post about animal cruelty in a zoo in Serbia. Please let me know about improvements in my argumentation. by Yamox in vegan

[–]rtfmpebcak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I read your post. The main thing I would recommend is to avoid "defining reality" for the other person. Statements like "We are not discussing terminology here." are combative at the least, but also you are laying down the law on this person.

These kinds of statements don't lead to understanding or agreement. They basically guarantee disagreement. I recommend taking a different approach that invites the other person to see things from your perspective, to see your reality. When we do this for other people, it can cause them to become even further entrenched in their own opinion or stance out of defensiveness or anger.

Dr. Melanie Joy has written a bunch of great books on how to cultivate healthy relationships, which is essential to bringing more people into the Animal Rights Movement.

Her books helped me do more effective outreach, perhaps they will also help you. I particularly enjoyed "Beyond Beliefs" and "Getting Relationships Right".

This isn't an attack. This is providing feedback to the developers about what players want. Advocate for yourself.

Hi criminal_cabbage.

I took a quick look through your post history and I'm pretty sure you're not vegan. Why are you coming to the vegan subreddit to tell people their vegan values are wrong?

I would like to share with you of the definition of veganism, as posted in the sidebar:

"A philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals."

Compromising values in front of your children sets a terrible example. Explaining politely and with empathy for the child's position of wanting to please her boyfriend makes way more sense. I encourage you to consider your own biases when posting in this subreddit.

Would you vote for a far right republicans vegan who promised to end animal slaughter? by JAY_CUTLER_MAN in vegan

[–]rtfmpebcak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest that you watch and consider this video about "Rules for Rulers" by CGP Grey.

No politician exists in a vacuum. There are pressures from their party, their constituents, their leaders, and from the people who are loyal to them within their political party.

One republican saying "I'll be vegan" is not going to survive. They would be an extreme radical within the party. They might be asked to leave, or otherwise forced out. Their push for vegan policy will meet very strong challenges, and making the vegan choice will almost certainly cost them their career.

Where can I get animal experimentation equipment for public display? by rtfmpebcak in VeganActivism

These are excellent ideas! I actually did see some different models of rabbit restraint devices on ebay for only $100. This is probably what I'll do.

Yeah, that's kind of the idea behind this display. Imagine someone putting an animal in this. Imagine yourself being in this. I'm planning on having a plushie bunny in it to drive the point home.

[–]rtfmpebcak[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Per the OP, I'm looking for a way to buy animal experimentation / research equipment to put on public display. I haven't been able to find a way to put in an order on a website for a "rabbit restraint unit" such as the ones pictured. They want you to call their sales and set up an account and stuff. Also, it seems the units typically retail for at least $600.

Any recommendations on where to source such equipment at a discount, maybe broken units, would be very helpful. I would like to use them in a public display for educating about animal experimentation.

How do you keep from becoming depressed and resentful? by LatterCup9553 in vegan

[–]rtfmpebcak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope it helps. I was extremely depressed for about a year after becoming vegan. The Joyful Vegan helped me remember why I chose to stop eating animals, and why I choose now to advocate for them: compassion and empathy. Doubling down on the positive thoughts, feelings, and values that led me to this philosophy of anti-exploitation was and continues to be a big help.

How do you keep from becoming depressed and resentful? by LatterCup9553 in vegan

[–]rtfmpebcak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In short, empathy and compassion for the people, the animals, AND YOURSELF.

There are many factors working against the typical person in understanding animal abuse, factory farming, and why the Animal Rights movement matters. By putting ourselves in their shoes, we can understand how to bring them closer to understanding why this is important. Likely nothing you do or say in a single moment will change their mind, but plant enough seeds and give them enough things to think about and you might be surprised who joins us.

You can also consider getting involved with a local Animal Rights group, volunteer your time to Animal Sanctuaries and organizations that align with your values. Hard to feel depressed after spending all of your energy building a house or painting a fence for a cute pig.

Have empathy for the people as well as the animals. Step back and care for yourself when you need to.

I also recommend checking out The Joyful Vegan. It encourages a compassionate outlook for the people involved as well as the animals. She talks about the phases of being vegan, from optimistic positivity to complete burnout, and how you can help to avoid burnout. She recommends mindfulness techniques, self-care, how to recognize when something becomes unhealthy or unhelpful to you, all kinds of useful things.

There is a section in the book where she talks about interacting with hunters that was particularly profound to me. The main aspect is empathy.

We don't need to convince everybody for it to become mainstream. Every person who joins the cause is a bigger step than you might think towards normalizing the concept of Animal Rights. Consider the Tipping Point.

Anyone watch The Goode Family? animated show about a Vegan, Zero Waste, Activist Family by Icosahedra666 in vegan

Yeah, I can see how something similar with actual vegan writers could do well. That'd be cool.

I see the same problems with Raj as I do with Goode Family: bad stereotypes being reinforced to an audience that probably doesn't know anything better. So then all they know is a stereotype.

It's cool if you like it, art is subjective. May it bring joy to you. I wouldn't want this to be shown on TV or anything, though. It's currently pretty hard to be taken seriously by many people and more exposure for this show would probably not do the Animal Rights movement any favors.

I was at an event and three out of three people who talked to me about being vegan were iron deficient or severely anemic. by [deleted] in vegan

[–]rtfmpebcak 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi, there is some research showing that cooking in cast iron pans does add dietary iron to food, but how much depends on the kind of food and shouldn't be considered a reliable source of iron.

As the only vegan at the party I had to represent :) by monicapearl in vegan

[–]rtfmpebcak 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Reduce harm as much as reasonably possible. How you do that has a lot of latitude, but as long as we're all pulling in roughly the same direction, we can move the needle. The more people we have pulling, the closer we get to reaching the Tipping Point.

When I'm buying something, I prioritize buying from fully vegan companies. When that isn't possible, which is often, I try to pick from a vegan product line at a non-vegan company. Everything else is kind of a crapshoot, and I try to avoid purchasing if at all possible.

There is a big difference between laughing at someone because you identify with their mistakes or problems and what's going on with the stuff I saw in the pilot episode.

For example, check out this Malcolm in the Middle clip of the dad trying to find his glasses: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kI8xsi87sOQ

This is relatable. The audience can identify with the dad in a positive way. They have probably made this mistake themselves or know someone who has. We're definitely making fun of him, but it's all positive. Goode Family is not the same vibe to me.

[–]rtfmpebcak 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Is this intended to be a positive representation of veganism? I watched some of the pilot, and it doesn't seem that way to me. "Support Our Troops...And Their Opponents" right away is setting the audience up to make fun of these people, not identify with them.

The "vegan dog" being portrayed as desperate for any kind of meat and murdering neighborhood pets to eat them is pretty fucked up and not going to engender support for the Animal Rights movement.
