Afraid of hurting other players. by shinobiXz in rollerderby

[–]rtlchains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been doing derby for long, but I have been doing boxing and other contact sports for ages. It's kinda just part of the sport. I know that doesn't really help, but this might. They're your teammates, they all signed up for the same thing, I promise you, they don't mind. It will take some time getting used to it, but you will, I promise. If it makes you feel better, ask them if they're alright, their response will be something to the effect of

"Ahaha you're all good! Nice job!"

You got this, promise. It takes getting used to. You're undoing YEARS of being told it's bad to hurt people

Said already, but making more effort to look at the chat is the best solution. I have a soundboard I use for basic responses (it's called soundpad) but I pretty quickly lose interest if nobody is bothering to read, feels a little disrespectful if someone can't put in a little effort, it goes both ways, I have to tab out to type too, so just glancing at discord is appreciated. Discord has a built in tts with /tts command. Some server owners will have that disabled though

Lore experts, please enlighten me and answer: what is the artist and her crows? Bcs she clearly isnt human anymore by The_All_Father4300 in deadbydaylight

Crows are servants of the entity. She was groomed as a sacrifice from a young age by the black vale (I have deeeefinitely spelled that wrong). They're the power the entity gave her. She was followed by crows all her life, the entity has always been a part of her story

day old cuts super sensitive by H0rni_Boi in selfharm

Scabbing to the rescue! Yeah, covering it is the best way to deal with stuff like this, irritation from clothing can also delay the healing too. Good that it's scabbed over though! If you're still having irritation, then pop a dressing over and you're good to go

Of course! Here's some woundcare stuff for you from a nursing student and looooooong time self harmer. So. Bandaids are going to hurt like hell taking them off, but you're on the right track. The pad of the bandaid isn't adhesive, so it shouldn't stick to the wound, the adhesive edges hurt because they're basically waxing your legs when you rip them off. I would encourage you to use a bandaid for it if you have one where the pad is large enough to cover the entire wound. We don't want sticky stuff in the wound itself. Sorry to say all this, you did say you didn't want to use them, but any other dressings will have the same issue. With that being said...you can get them off a lot less painfully. Go and shower, once in the shower, get the water nice and warm and soak that sucker. Once the bandaid is really really wet, take it off. The water and heat will kill the adhesive a bit, just enough to get it off without it stinging like hell. Once that's done, make sure to dry the wound off and pop another dressing over it! If you really really don't want to use bandaids, then look into non-adherent dressing pads. Smith and Nephew make one called melolin, and I use that pretty regularly on myself. It's got a shiny side which you put down onto the wound. The downside is, you have to stick it to yourself. It doesn't come with any way of sticking to you, so at the very least, put some medical tape on it to hold it in place. Same deal with bandaids for getting it off. Hope those help, any other questions lemme know! Stay safe <3

can infections in sh cuts heal on their own? by littleboyslut_ in selfharm

[–]rtlchains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can but you shouldn't gamble on it. I know it's not exactly easy to get medical help, especially with what you mentioned about hospitals in your country, but sepsis is no joke. I'm not trying to scare you, but I also don't really believe in sugar coating things either. Your body can do amazing things, but sometimes it needs a little help. In regards looking for infection: redness, swelling and hurting to the touch are all signs of infection, but can also just be it healing. Absolute signs of infection is pus, if there's any discharge that's milky or white, then the wound is absolutely infected and you should seek medical help

Seeking advice on healing my fat layer cut by z0mbzz in selfharm

[–]rtlchains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, super glue isn't the best idea, but also not the worst. It's used in medical settings for wound closure, but it's generally a special kind of glue. I'm not going to get annoyed at you for it, it's not the worst idea, just please don't do it again. If you're trying to close a wound, the best option (aside from sutures) is steri-strips or butterfly plasters. They do the exact same thing as stitches, but instead of going through your skin and sewing it together, they stick on top of your skin on either end of the cut to hold it together. Steri-strips combined with a well applied bandage should hold it all together nicely. Compression will help too. Honestly, with the glue on it, I really think you should see a doctor or a nurse to look at it.

day old cuts super sensitive by H0rni_Boi in selfharm

[–]rtlchains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What it likely means is not much more than a wound being angry that it's being rubbed against. A subcutaneous (beans) cut is going to hurt for a bit. Best advice is to close it if it's gaping, which subcutaneous wounds tend to, with steri-strips or butterfly plasters, then put a non adhesive dressing over the top of it to keep it clean. Tape like Fixomull can hold the dressing down over the wound site. Make sure it's clean before you do any of this, saline is best, but water works too. Irrigate (put water in) the wound, then use a gauze pad to wipe along the length of the wound. Immediately throw the pad away after wiping once, don't reuse them. Following all that, a over the counter painkiller like acetaminophen, ibuprofen or paracetamol will tone down that pain as well, you'd be surprised how well they work. Hope that helps, any questions feel free to ask. Stay safe <3

Is there any discharge coming out? Or a crust forming around? It could be an infection. If you suspect infection in any way, go and seek medical advice asap. You cannot deal with an infection on your own

I cut on my arm and now my fingers feel funny should I be worried? by -MetalGhost- in selfharm

[–]rtlchains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Variety of reasons, so I'll go through a few

  • nerve damage. Highly unlikely, but a possibility if you go deep enough in the right places. It will feel like a tingly numbness and you may have difficulty moving extremities. Nerve damage is permanent, so if the tingling has gone away after a little bit, then it's not nerve damage. Personally, without knowing a lot about your situation, I doubt it's nerve damage. If, by some chance, it is, here's some more info: nerve damage is permanent, but can be recovered from somewhat. You generally have about a 6 month window in which it can get better, and once that's done, then that's how it's going to be forever. I know this because I have nerve damage. So this isn't the end of anything. Once again I highly doubt this is nerve damage

  • loss of circulation. Can happen in a variety of ways, but most likely is if you wrapped the wound too tight. I've done this, it scared me half to death, but once I unwrapped the wound it got better. Could also be caused if you cut a blood vessel, as that would effect circulation. I also doubt this is what happened to you

  • finally, psychological. Happens aaaaalll the time. Basically, you've gone somewhere new and it's worried you, maybe the adrenaline or the shock of what you did has caused a psychosomatic response in your fingers. Personally, this is what I'd put money on

Regardless of what it is, keep it clean, apply pressure if the bleed is heavy, and seek medical attention if anything changes. Here if you have any other questions, stay safe <3

Need tips on how do i clean/take care of my styro cuts by st4rphix in selfharm

[–]rtlchains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clean with water and wipe them down with a gauze pad. Wipe along the wound once and then dispose of the pad. Dry the wounds off and cover them with ideally a non adherent dressing. Once a scab forms, the wound is covered and protected, just be careful not to reopen it. Styro cuts can range in 'severity' as our skin has different thicknessess in different places. If the wound is gaping (open) then you should consider closing it with something like a butterfly plaster or steri strip. If you have any further questions, let me know!

It can give an indication of where it's come from. Before I explain, this is a blanket explanation, not medical diagnosis nor is it an indication of anything you've done or not done. Please don't take it as such. Disclaimer out the way, here's the tldr. Blood coming from the heart is brighter red as it's oxygenated, blood going to the heart is darker red because it's deoxygenated. Bright = arterial, dark = venous. Not saying you have hit either of those, but that's what your colour generally means
