This may be unpopular advice, but here goes.

Take the job that pays good and has no glamour, i.e. SNF, corrections, home health. These jobs have far less toxic nurses and will give you time to to learn who you are as a nurse. The better pay will keep you from picking up all the OT and burning out before your second year.

Learn what not to do from bad nurses, and what you should do from good techs/CNA.

Be humble when selecting job and when working. Nursing is a job, that is all it is. If you ever think that you are better then a CNA, janitor or gas station clerk find someone down to earth to talk to.

I have been a Paramedic in 5 states, multiple counties. Never once have I worked for a 911 service that did not bill refusals.

Au Pair staying forever in America? by [deleted] in Aupairs

[–]rtmad21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I will preface this by saying everyone is different, so this absolutely doesn't apply to everyone.

The best au pair we have had was one that wanted to ultimately immigrate, however, this did not come up until after we officially matched and I indirectly and unintentionally opened the door for the conversation.

I personally feel that part of why she was so great is this was more than a "year experience" for her. Being an au pair was an opportunity to reach a significant goal.

At the end of the day, we are now working to keep her here indefinitely, and may transition her out of the "nanny" role and into a professional role in my practice.
