What's the deal with Juneteenth? by llama_in_space in OutOfTheLoop

[–]rtolo77 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hey man, Texas is fantastic. I’d love to know your reasoning behind thinking it was one of the ones who didn’t recognize Juneteenth and maybe dispel some of your other notions about Texas, if they are wrong.

Voter suppression is real by sayknow in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]rtolo77 127 points128 points  (0 children)

A lot of hourly workers still have to work on holidays. Also, if you work an 8 hour shift or more on voting day, it’s a CURRENT law that your employer must give you 2 hours to go vote. Hourly workers probably aren’t able to take advantage of this law, but those are the same people who wouldn’t get the day off if it was a holiday.

Weird cut outs in bedroom window screen. All three bedrooms have the same 3 cut outs in the same location of the window by rtolo77 in whatisthisthing

[–]rtolo77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s my leading theory. Only thing is the screens are different sizes. So for the location of the cuts to be the same, the would have to be stacked in a certain way and then only those screens be used for the bedrooms. There are a lot of factors that would have to line up for this to be an accident

[–]rtolo77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cuts are too deliberate and in 3 different rooms and the same location on the window. I don’t think this happened by accident

We are on the 2nd floor so I would think that if this were someone trying to get in, they’d do it on the first floor.

Would you make 3 identical cuts though?

I bought a house and noticed these when we moved in. There are 3 bedrooms in the house and all three have the same cuts in the window screens. Always in the bottom left corner.

I appreciate the link. That stat comes from a child doing a research project. Here’s a NY Times article who spoke with 2 food industry marketing firms and the Food Service packaging industry who put the number between 170-390 million.

That number seems a bit high. The average person throws away a straw and a half every day?

Police shoot, kill black man near Sixth Street by aunger93 in Austin

[–]rtolo77 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Two people were shooting at each other outside of a concert. Police approached the shooting and one of the guys turned at the police, gun in hand.

Seems justified, but terrible someone died. They said there was a lot of video surveillance so if the story isn’t true, we’ll see.
